I know it wasn't. However, I contend that there is a general perception that Seagulls Chat has gone head to head with NSC and is getting thrashed.

Getting trashed? You can't really say someone is "getting trashed" if one site started on an established base of (say) 200,000 uniques/month and the other started on nothing. Stats can show you anything you want, for example I bet SG is faster growing than NSC based on the last four months statistics.
Seagulls chat would do well to develop their "articles" about BHA. It's something NSC doesn't really have and since the new Seagulls website is shit, some people could potentially looking for a hub of Albion related news.

much more intelligent posters on there though

I just had a look at some of the posts, saw a lot of "huns" and the like. Just because NSC has more swearing, it doesn't make us less intelligent. I'd say people that say "hun" are more likely to be unintelligent than people that use profanities.

Gingerbread man, that comment was said tongue in cheek. :)

Similarly, my comment was about what I sense the general perception is from comments I have read about Seagulls Chat rather than what my own personal view is. My personal view is that all sites have to start from somewhere and it takes time to get established.

It's a case of horses for courses.

I doubt anybody could argue that it isn't a very good looking website and well done to all concerned for that.

However, the forum side is not my cup of tea but I'm sure it is to others, so fair play to Lady Gull. x Hun x

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Imagine if every user set up their own forum after taking a little bit of stick ???

I'd set one up with a secret password that only a certain number of my personalities would have access to. I'd have to lessen my medication and look to flip more regularly to get a real debate going between my internal people - i am fairly sure a row between Street Meade's Ball and Wurzel Meade's Ball concerning fairness to foxes would be rather wartorn and filled with verbal snipes to the cranium - but it would be a joy for Regular Meade's Ball to read when he came around and have him feel less lonely. I write this from the perspective of Looking For Sympathy Please Don't Ever Let Me Be That Lonely Meade's Ball.

The most curious thing..
What's it like compared to say Brightonfans.com, which appeared almost totally dead the last time I ventured there?

It's something I've thought about long and hard over the years. The problem is coming up with original content. I certainly don't have the time (nor, crucially, the writing quality) to keep a content driven side of the site up-to-date and fresh.

The official site, the Argus and, to some degree the Nationals mean there is no void to fill, really, in that style of official, straight-down-the line Albion reporting which means any other site should focus on original fan-centric content that really covers Albion culture. Two sites do this pretty well already, I think - We Are Brighton and The Seagull Love Review.

That said, we do have space for original content that is more of an article than a messageboard post and I'd gladly welcome those who want to write for it occasionally. I do keep thinking about more formally trying to get some of NSC's better writers on board for that. I can style it up appropriately and even make it the default landing page when people visit NSC.

I'm lazy though, so we are what we are.
