This is so much harder than you think it’s going to be, particularly if you’re not old enough to include players from less fashionable nations like Yashin and Puskas. I started to think about those kind of outliers from countries not renowned for world class footballing ability, but that left me with the likes of Hagi, Stoichkov, Litmanen and Weah but then you begin to immediately fall down on the club scene.

If this is possible without having at least three non-world class randomers then I salute you!

Trouble is, everything leads to Barca, Real M, Inter and AC Milan.

All those wonderful players from Denmark, Holland, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia seemed to play for them. Restricting options.

Best I could do. Born in 1985, think this is valid.

GK: Jan Oblak
RB: Gary Kelly
LB: Andrew Robertson
CB: Paulo Maldini
CB: Vincent Kompany
MF: Paul Gascoigne
MF: Lothar Matthaus
MF: Carlos Valderrama
FW: Cristiano Ronaldo
FW: Lionel Messi
FW: Didier Drogba

Struggled with my right back so had to make do with good old Irish, one club Gary Kelly. He only just made it on account that I had to swap out Paul McShane for Maldini as, like Robertson, he’d played for Hull.

Hope I've not broken the rules. I'd play this as a 3-5-2, but to be honest I'd leave this lot to sort themselves out.
You've broken the rules quite a bit. Nice team though

Absolutely pointless challenge. If you were going to pick the best World XI in your lifetime it shouldn't matter who they played for. Xavi, Iniesta and Messi would all get in my team but two aren't allowed. I'm out.
