Really

You say that you love me (say you love me)
All of the time (all of the time)
You say that you need me (say you need me)
You'll always be mine (always be mine)

I'm feelin' (glad all over)
Yes, I'm-a (glad all over)
Baby, I'm (glad all over)
So glad you're mine

I'll make you happy (make you happy)
You'll never be blue (never be blue)
You'll have no sorrow (have no sorrow)
'Cause I'll always be true (always be true)

And I'm feelin' (glad all over)
Yes, I'm-a (glad all over)
Baby, I'm (glad all over)
So glad you're mine

Other girls may try to take me away (take me away)
But you know, it's by your side I will stay
I'll stay

Our love will last now (our love will last)
Till the end of time (end of time)
Because this love now (because this love)
Is only yours and mine (yours and mine)

And I'm feelin' glad all over
Yes, I'm-a glad all over
Baby, I'm glad all over
So glad you're mine

Other girls may try to take me away (take me away)
But you know, it's by your side I will stay
I'll stay

Our love will last now (our love will last)
Till the end of time (end of time)
Because this love now (because this love)
Is only yours and mine (yours and mine)

And I'm feelin' (glad all over)
Yes, I'm-a (glad all over)
Baby, I'm-a (glad all over)
So glad you're mine

I'm so glad you're mine now
I'm so, I'm so glad you're mine
I'm-a so glad you're mine now
Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk

You'll never walk
You'll never walk alone

Now is the time for marching, Now let your hearts be gay,
Hark to the merry bugles Sounding along our way.
So let your voices ring, my boys, And take the time from me,
And I’ll sing you a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

For We're the men from Sussex, Sussex by the Sea.
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men are we;
And when you go to Sussex, Whoever you may be,
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the Sea!

Oh Sussex, Sussex by the Sea!
Good old Sussex by the Sea!
You may tell them all we stand or fall,
For Sussex by the Sea.

Up in the morning early, Start at the break of day;
March till the evening shadows Tell us it's time to stay.
We're always moving on, my boys, So take the time from me,
And sing this song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

Sometimes your feet are weary, Sometimes the way is long,
Sometimes the day is dreary, Sometimes the world goes wrong;
But if you let your voices ring, Your care will fly away,
So we'll sing a song as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

Light is the love of a soldier, That's what the ladies say -
Lightly he goes a wooing, Lightly he rides away.
In love and war we always are As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies’ joy
In Sussex by the Sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander, Wide thro’ the world we roam;
Far from the kind hearts yonder, Far from our dear old home;
But ne'er shall we forget, my boys, And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the Sea.

You really think people will buy the program to learn the words of a song?

Pearl's Jam's Alive is one of my Favourite songs of all time. I don't know the words.

I had Sussex by the Sea played at my wedding when I walked out the church and at the reception by a band. The song means a lot to me but I don't know the words. My brain simply isn't wired that way. As stated before, stick the words on the screen. We all sing the same version (the pedants will argue what that is) and it will create a better atmosphere. Most football fans aren't MENSA members. It's unrealistic for the majority of the crowd to know more than 1 verse of any song. Christ, most of us can't get past the first verse of God Save the Queen.

Spot on.

How hard is it to sing "I wanna be *clap* *clap* glad all over" or YNWA come to that - if people are worried it will give the away fans a giggle then put it on the South screen and not the north then the away fans might not notice. Have you ever listened to how many sing SBTS Ner Ner Ner Ner andweregoinguptowinthecupforsusbytsea

Something needs to happen

That is FAR worse than putting words up on the screen. Especially when it's sung at twice the speed it should be. Sussex By The Sea should be sung loud and proud and at the right speed and the current format clearly doesn't work so you're right: something needs to happen for it to sound fantastic.

Some clubs manage their songs fantastically well-Stoke's Delilah, Anfield and Derby come to mind and I'd love for us to have that level of sound at The Amex. It didn't happen overnight for those clubs-they had to work at it. Tony Bloom isn't stupid-he knows that atmosphere isn't always organic and sometimes needs some help. Why else do clubs sing popular songs that are easy to learn? Our ANTHEM isn't known by most of the young fans at The Amex so if we can get them singing it properly where's the harm in it? They only know the shite 'win the cup' 'der der der der' version which is way more embarrassing than words on a screen.

I was on about the versions actually sung at the grounds, since we dont sing the FULL song - the above is irrelevant and my post still stands.

As others have pointed out, Derby do it and don't suffer any 'almighty piss taking' from other clubs. You seem very self conscious about an issue which is largely insignificant

yep that'd be me.....since 1987 i've sung it that way :lolol: although i'm more of a der der der than a ner ner ner.......

if it takes a few seasons of lyrics up on the big screen to ingrain it then why not, if you ask me.

although i would prefer to keep "and we're going up to win the cup" over the original lyrics.

Derby havent got previous for rather awful ideas.....Nicking ideas from other clubs is pretty tinpot too, especially this.

We need a better way to go about it. Cutting the music out is one of them, though our fanbase do have the ability to speed any song up to 200mph....

But the nasty men will laugh at us for using the word gay in its original context rather than the more widely accepted meaning these days. :tantrum:

I am seriously unsure why so many on here are football fans as thin skins should exempt you from coming anywhere near the sport. If you don't like the idea then fair enough. But if you are worried that people your purport to dislike will laugh at you, then I think this is a perfect time to use the phrase 'man up'.

As others have stated, do Derby get criticised for it? Are you embarrassed for them? I doubt it.

Iggle Piggle I agree with every word.
I think I am just about going to be able to contain my embarrassment and any ribbing I get from any away fans when I hear the sound that a full stadium will make when belting it out properly.
Like you, been a regular for 40 odd years and also had it played at my wedding....and still can't get to grips with all the words.

I've had a THINK, and here is my suggestion:

As the team runs out FIRST half: PA plays the intro, then fades. Words up on the screens.

SECOND half: PA plays intro, then fades. No words on screens.

When we reach the point where the second half version (without the words up) is sung as well as the first, then we'll know that everybody who wants to learn them has done so, and we can stop putting them up at all.

Sorted.

Next.

Did not sound crap to me when 32,000 Derby fans belted out their anthem with words on a screen.

They were in a winning position in play-off second leg at a sold out stadium, ANY club would have a good atmosphere at a game like that !!

They probably didnt even need the words, their loud fanbase didnt need any when they came to the Amex and outsung us.....

Ive said enough on this now, i simply cannot be bothered to reply anymore. Its a crap idea - end of.

But not everybody DOES know the words, except to the chorus. I'd rather the words were up and 15,000 voices joined in, then they were not, and 7,000 mumble along, going der der der der der.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you there. "goinguptowinthecup" last time I checked was not the words to the chorus.

If we are going to put the words up on the screen it has to be the CORRECT words.

Then stick them in a programme. Its football, not karaoke. You learn the words - not sing from a screen. We had words on the clackers.....that went well didnt it

Oh, and pre-match atmosphere really isnt THAT bad, its during the game where its dire. Just removing the music for the chorus would improve it pre-match.

But not enough people even know the words to the chorus
