Key is discipline, and thats not a word you normally associate with gambling !!

They want me to continue university and if I want to keep the gambling up at uni then that's up to me.

Personally though, I don't think I can juggle both. My degree and university life keeps my very busy and I think the betting will turn out as just a casual thing (which almost certainly leads to a loss)

There is time to do both (unless you're doing engineering). But if there isn't, do the degree first. If you become a successful professional gambler, there's still the difficulty of living tha kind of life, and it's certainly better to start young when you don't have anything to lose (wife, kids, house). If you're good enough, you may be better working for a bookie, and the degree would help. You've more chance of making money in poker though, as you're up against some part timers rather than against the house.

But whatever you want to do, finish your degree first.

The 1995 adaption of The Gambling Man starring Robson Green (by Catherine Cookson) is a good drama. Not far from real life either.
