There are two veggie pies. There is "the veggie pie" - the standard offering with butternut and stuff in it, and then there is "the veggie special pie" - a limited-ish edition featuring spinach and ricotta.

If you ask for "the veggie pie" as is suggested happened, you should be given the butternut-y one. Indeed, so poor is the general signage relating to special pies, it could be the case that any given supporter had no idea there was an alternative.

I say that because I didn't know the special was still available having seen no mention of it whatsoever. All of which annoys me more now as it seems they hadn't just run out of one pie, but two.

I think the 'pulled pork' special is also a veggie pie...

I had an email exchange with Tony Crosbie today, he is the stadium director of catering for Sodexho.

He acknowledges, as I reported to him, that all 3 north bars were out of Harveys by 5.05pm, and so was WSL1 and WSU. He could not offer any outside force or event to explain this catastrophic breakdown of supply, he simply acknowledges that they did not get the product in the right place at the right time, even though they had planned for this the biggest crowd of the season, a

That's completely meaningless waffle. How, if he planned for the biggest crowd of the season, could there not be any beer available. Planning doesn't mean saying "Oh, it's the biggest crowd of the season, we should do something about it" but actually doing something about it. It sounds like he'd ordered more supplies in but didn't have the staff to move the barrels to the bars - that smacks of a total lack of planning to me

It smacks of penny-pinching to me. They ran out of Harvey's about 20 minutes after the final whistle in WSU. That suggests to me they didn't have any to get there in the first place.

I'd say their attitude it that they'd rather run out of beer than buy more and risk being lumbered with beer they can't sell.

Just as a matter interest does anybody know how long a barrel of Harveys will keep once opened or indeed once not opened? Is it measured in days? weeks? months? Ditto a canister type thing of Kronie? If the big fear for the caterers is being left lumbered with beer they can't sell, why don't they just switch entirely to bottles and cans, which presumably have a shelf life of an entire season? Or is that just stating the bleeding obvious?

There were more supporters, but I was also a bit surprised when so many stuck around for so long afterwards. I felt there was more anger than resigned apathy, and people needed to vent a bit, I suppose. Hence they stuck around to do just that. However, that still doesn't account for the ale running out so quickly in EVERY concourse.

I'm struggling to take the explanation given by Mr Crosbie to that poster seriously. It doesn't stand up.

Unless the caterers are about to be given their marching orders maybe and are just running down their notice period. Hard to see why else they would appear to not give a shit about maximising turnover on one of the busiest days of the season.

What struck me as crazy was pulling down the shutters on the WSL bar while there were still customers being served. It was 6.00 pm and there were lots of people still milling around, socialising and drinking in the concourse area. Any sensible bar manager would have seen more potential sales, not just staff who want to go home.

We inevitably saw what was happening as simply an invitation to wander off for more drinks in Brighton.

The final straw for me was that the Harveys had run out at 5-00

Have to agree with that. How many more times are we going to hear that 'things will improve' and 'we will learn'.
Fact is that until the club hire a decent company with proper experience of stadium catering, we will continue to experience this type of rubbish. And the pubs in town will benefit more rather than the club.
