I think the company went bust, hence no payout, also he is looking for a job, but whilst looking every penny counts, therefore he cant afford the luxury of £60 ish coming out of his account each month whilst he is looking
Completely agree - S/T holders are the main source of club income - we are loyal to the club - the club should be fair to us. You have enough to worry about when you loose your job and £50 on top of the lost £80 already taken by DD can be a huge hit in the circumstances
Difficult one. The club offer a very attractive interest free DD option for spreading the payments of the ST rather than forking out a lump sum, on a season ticket that works out as excellent value compared to match day prices. Therefore they hardly want the administrative inconvenience of it being easy for people just to cancel their ST whenever they feel like it.
Just looked at the Southampton T&C's and if you cancel with them you have a £20 cancellation fee AND a £45 administration fee.
This is nothing short of a rip off, what does it cost to stop a DD nothing so why a charge
Perhaps because by doing this you are committing to a contract for a season and by cancelling are breaking it.
Not much different from say cancelling a mobile phone contract early

One of my sons didnt renew because he missed so many games last season through no fault of his own, so effectively his contract had finished but he was still charged £50.

Are you saying he was charged £50 for not renewing ? Sounds very odd.

All the reasons why I pay in full with an interest-free credit card so I can dictate the terms I pay it off and avoid a financial penalty.
My view as well however I am sure by signing up to direct debit you are also locked in a contract.

If he drops an email to Paul barber and explains the situation and the fact he has already paid £80 but will be getting nothing for it then I suspect the man (despite all the people on here who think he is satan) will get something sorted out
Any chance of that in English in a way that also makes logical sense please?
Nah, not having that.
You would not be charged £50 for not renewing.
You would be charged £50 if you didn't cancel the renewal within the timeframe communicated, and then said "i don't want to renew" when it was too late. And rightly so.
