I think the company went bust, hence no payout, also he is looking for a job, but whilst looking every penny counts, therefore he cant afford the luxury of £60 ish coming out of his account each month whilst he is looking

Same thing happened to me last year the receiver should give him a form to fill out for govt redundany payment. I had worked at the same company for 15 years. The form is dead simple to fill out. I got over £9,000 from the govt. Not as good as my redundancy should have been but it really helped. Get him to google govt redundancy payments, have to say it was a really simple and efficient system.

Completely agree - S/T holders are the main source of club income - we are loyal to the club - the club should be fair to us. You have enough to worry about when you loose your job and £50 on top of the lost £80 already taken by DD can be a huge hit in the circumstances

Has he lost the £80 as well then? Didn't think that had been confirmed!

Just been stung by this...had to cancel due to financial and son playing football on a Saturday. I think this is disgusting. I calculated that I have spent close to £100 per month in the Amex era. I am really upset by this.

Guess I will be going to two less games now, considering my son's ST was £50 (approx) per year. Honestly very p***ed off by this

Difficult one. The club offer a very attractive interest free DD option for spreading the payments of the ST rather than forking out a lump sum, on a season ticket that works out as excellent value compared to match day prices. Therefore they hardly want the administrative inconvenience of it being easy for people just to cancel their ST whenever they feel like it.

Just looked at the Southampton T&C's and if you cancel with them you have a £20 cancellation fee AND a £45 administration fee.

This. 'I'll happily sign a contract that is advantageous to me (interest free 'loan' for ST purchase rather than payment in full up front) until it doesn't suit me, then through no fault of the club my circumstances will change, and I'll make a huge fuss and say they are *******s for suggesting I have to stick to what was agreed'

Every sympathy with anyone being made redundant, but FFS stop slagging the club off when all they are doing is following whatever process they have in place and acting in accordance with what we've all signed up to. I suspect an email to the club will elicit a sympathetic response, making all the negative BS on here even more irrelevant.

Cancelling the DD has no impact on your contract with the club, they can sue for non-payment and breach if contract if they want.

Sorry, rant over.

This is nothing short of a rip off, what does it cost to stop a DD nothing so why a charge

Perhaps because by doing this you are committing to a contract for a season and by cancelling are breaking it.

Not much different from say cancelling a mobile phone contract early

It's not just cancelling a DD though is it? You have agreed a deal with the club, you agree to buy a ticket for every home game and in exchange you get a hefty discount.

If you decide, for whatever reason, to end your side of the bargain the club then have an empty seat to try and fill for the rest of the season (which they may have been able to sell to someone else at the beginning of the season) and you have gained an unfair discount on your tickets to date.

One of my sons didnt renew because he missed so many games last season through no fault of his own, so effectively his contract had finished but he was still charged £50.

Nah, not having that.

You would not be charged £50 for not renewing.

You would be charged £50 if you didn't cancel the renewal within the timeframe communicated, and then said "i don't want to renew" when it was too late. And rightly so.

Are you saying he was charged £50 for not renewing ? Sounds very odd.

My view as well however I am sure by signing up to direct debit you are also locked in a contract.

All the reasons why I pay in full with an interest-free credit card so I can dictate the terms I pay it off and avoid a financial penalty.

Sorry, but I can't believe this is an accurate representation of the facts. If they are accurate, simply phone the club and you'll get the £50 back. Alternatively, perhaps have another go at explaining here what actually happened?

Ummm, if you cancel the DD with the club at the end of the second month you're charged 2 months DD plus £50. The £50 is, if you like, an early cancellation fee. I've never heard of anyone being charged for the whole season if they cancel reasonably early. If you pay in full at the start of the season (however you pay), then if your financial circumstances change, you've already paid for the whole season with no chance of recouping any of the money....

I had to cancel my season ticket this season due to work issues ( My company moved me to another shop and my staff are not as understanding as my previous set ).Last season I managed to find someone to share the ticket but he did not want to carry on this season. Knowing the situation I cancelled around March of this year and incurred no costs. It is well known that there is a fee to be paid once the payments start for a new season and any cash owed by the club can be put as e-cash on your season ticket. This senario has left me being able to pick which home games I can get too but also I will try to get to more away games than I normally would. There is a small window of opportunity in March of around three weeks were you can cancel and not get hit with a charge.
