looking at the data this morning CO2 emissions have in fact flattened out - we are doing a lot already. to meet the targets for 1.5C projection we need to rapidly reduce emissions. not just a little, reversing 40-50 years to the output levels of early 70s, in a period of 10 years. unless we want to mirror that with similar reversal of production and living standards, it not techically credible. we need a completly different approach, removing and sequestering CO2. pointless exercise otherwise.

and we should put the projections under some scrutiny, because a lot of data and behaviours do not match.

The top 5 fossil fuel producers Exxon, Chev, BP, Shell and Total make about 5% of their investments into renewables.

Two of these of taxed in the UK are get away with the windfall tax if they re-invest profits into fossil fuel exploration. Its blinding obvious they are in incapable to making the right decisions, its up to governments to act.

If they don't act, vote them out for someone that gives a shit about the long term.

Their actions is trivial in the whole scheme of things, but generate a lot of publicity.

Finding it harder to condemn them outright, they're probably do time, who would want that? Who wants a criminal record or even a caution?

no, it is pointless gesturing. they want an end for UK licencing oil exploration. thats it. doesnt remotely effect the grand target being discussed. imagine what you'd have to change to cut in half your energy consumption, including secondary consumption of all the services you use.

According to a professor on Laura K's show at the weekend, it would cost 4p per KwH to capture all of the carbon produced by the fossil fuel electricity generators at source. Why is that not being progressed at pace? Or is it and we are not hearing about it?

its not talked about and appears to not be happening because all focus is on reducing consumption and emissions.

It's not pointless gesturing if it generates the column inches required to maybe fractionally nudge the public and the politicians in the right direction ie towards leaving a habitable planet for our grandkids and their grandkids. Is that such a crime?

Sounds rather expensive just to save coral reefs , thousands of species, crop production, the future of our great grand children......oh wait
