Yes that well known tax dodging socialist Bono has raised the bar again by taking a huge sum off apple and then making it look like he's the generous one giving away his art. Let's hope it's a one off or big bands will kill off emerging ones the way Huffington "please write for us for the exposure" Post is killing emerging writers and journalists.

Having listened to a couple of tracks on you tube it's U2 sounding like U2 and it's very boring - one of those listened to wouldn't sound out of place on a Bon Jovi album, so I've no idea where this Ramones-Kraftwerk thing comes from.

No. No they're not. They're effectively masking a huge, two way, corporate advert as giving away art. And all the time people are downloading this and listening to it they're not paying to download and listen to other music, like, say, stuff by Two Choices.
Nah. I've downloaded it to hear the Lykke Li track. Now I've heard it, and my opinion is broadly in line with [MENTION=5200]Buzzer[/MENTION] above (i.e MOR blandness) I'll no doubt delete the whole album within a week. Most people who have downloaded this have done so for one reason - because it was free.
They, like me, didn't download it instead of something else that they were planning to seek out last night. I'll still spend exactly what I would have done otherwise, on music this month.

U2 and Apple have had a long lasting mutual back scratching relationship. It's a bit wanky, but a one-off, free album is just good for fans of U2 rather than bad for other bands (in my mind anyway).
Ah, but with the money I've saved on this free purchase I've been able to buy something else.
Let's hope it stays that way because if people expect all their music for free your choice will end up being very limited indeed.....

Just listening to it on YouTube ... Always been a big fan of the band but wasn't too keen on the last couple of albums - this one sounds great though!

but can anyone help me out with what i need to do to download this straight to my device? I don't do iTunes on pc/mac.
If i open the iTunes Store app it says purchased, but if i go into the music app the album is not there?

Within the iTunes Store app, click [more] then click [purchased] then click [music] - it should be there with a little cloud symbol and an arrow - this means it's in your account cloud but not downloaded to your device. Click [download all] and it should then download to the device.

I think the much much bigger issue facing new bands is the pathetic royalties due from streaming sites like Spotify. Bands giving away music isn't a big deal. You're barking up the wrong tree here.
