Were you around in 1983

No, the Internet was around in 1983. It was on 1 January 1983 that the Internet Protocol became the standard for transmission. It was also in 1983 that the Domain Name System (the means by which IP addresses are translated into Internet domain names) was invented.

And all this was going on while we were on the start of our decline to the fourth division and on our way to the cup final. And, yes, I was there

Yes but not in households. I think it was 1990 I first used the web from work. 1991 had 9.6k modem at home! the porn back then was just as good but had no viruses, woohoo!

Back to the thread, yeah, I went to all home games for the cup run and both finals. I really hope the premier league or cup final comes along again so I can relive it with my kids.

Same for me for. Was also at Anfield in 1991 when 2-0 down and came back to 2-2 Johnny Byrne equalising. Excellent madness in the stand.

Great match ... and the Football Genius had John Barnes in his pocket all game.

Yes, that's true but that's now what was being said. The Internet's been around since the 70s - not that there'd be much on it then ...

If United were winning Trophies in the 80's like they have done in recent times it would of been CWC as runner up in the 83 Final.

the mancs went on to play Barcelona & Juventus in the following Cup Winners Cup,what could have been

My abiding memories of 82/83 apart from the obvs are:

The 1-1 opening game against Ipswich and Smillie's debut
Mike Bailey climbing out over the East Stand to avoid John Vinnicombe after he was sacked
Wardy's goal against United in front of packed North Stand
Mickey Robinson headbutting Steve Sherwood against Watford on New Years Day 83
Gary Howlett's header against Liverpool on his debut again in front of a packed North Stand
Clive Thomas making us take kick off again for no particular reason in the penultimate home match against Everton (last time we played them)
My two Stoke vouchers

Yep, and with the money and prestige from the CWC we might have been able to attract/retain one or two more players and bounce straight back up (we weren't far off it for most of the first season after we were relegated).
Oh, what might have been........! Barcelona at the Goldstone Ground anyone?

Oh yes.

Dont understand all this negativety for Mike Bailey had he been allowed to continue with his brand of football we would have become an established top flight team. Tjere is norhing wrong in passing back to the keeper 50 times in the first half as was achieved at Old Trafford. Far better to win 1-0 than lose 4-3

Attended the whole of the 83 cup run with the exception of the 3rd round replay up at Newcastle (had to wait for the Sportsnight coverage!). For the replay tickets, I had an 'emergency dentist' appointment on the Monday afternoon so had to leave school early. When I joined the queue at the Goldstone with my Dad, it seemed as if half my school and a fair few teachers had similar medical emergencies.

Who'd have thought that the lovable clown that took us to the 1983 cup final would have a sex change and end up on strictly

Always a slight regret getting too pissed in Victoria on the way to Wembley. The whole day became a bit if a blur.

Then the replay getting on the Catford train on the way home instead of the Caterham train, the police kindly took pity on six of us and gave us a lift to Croydon in the back of a transit.

We had some great players in the Division One team while Robinson scored the goals Smith was quality. Remember going to Spurs early season and winning brilliant performance.

Can't swear but think the Spurs game you refer to was the 1981/2 season.
