I'll have to take your word for that!
It might do, I was 10 during '98 so I've never really had much in the way of national success (or late runs into tournaments) to hold onto. After the tournaments I've seen in my lifetime I'm honestly happy to just see us turn up and at least try now...
The Brighton aspect is a good point, I've never thought of it that way. With a fair bit of positivity around the Albion now (unless you come on here after a loss) sporting hope can be placed a bit closer to home.
Maybe I didn't think of that due to age, I don't have the decades (and decades)...
I'd have to disagree with Cahill needing to go, he's not to the level of Terry or Campbell in their England pomp but he's genuinely one of the best centre backs we have (in my opinion anyway).
Edit; Sterling on the bench would be reasonable, if nothing else he'd terrify a tired defence late on.
I can't deny it happens but if any non-tournament result is to be enjoyed then it's probably this one!
Out of interest, what are your minimum expectations of England in the Euros?
Hi! I have a fairly pronounced anti-Liverpool bias (full disclosure and all that) and don't really understand why Henderson is such a fixture at the moment, it feels like he's there because of the team he plays for.
No issue with Lallana though, used to be but I was rightfully corrected.
I knew you'd be coming back after I read some of those.
Some are always going to believe in the national team (someone has to) and others might have brief flirtations with the idea but I doubt there are many out there who expect a trophy this summer.
Also, some of those posts only mention now...
It might be time to cut the national side a little slack, that was 15 years ago!
Just had a look at the squad from that night and at least 4 have been club managers since then, 1 is the U21 manager and a lot of the others are now pundits...none are near the national team now. Let the pain go...
For fu...WHY?! Even when he's not finding new and interesting ways to avoid actually playing the game he's paid for he's rarely put in a performance worthy of the hype that's surrounded him since he broke through. Especially now we're not looking so lean in the middle and can see what a...
Rooney isn't a great surprise but when did he say that about Wilshere?
Surely it would be borderline impossible to justify it when he's played sod all football (I think) this season and you've got an 'undercard' of players who are actually deserving of it.
It's nice to see an England team playing well without many of those the media consider the 'big guns' (Rooney & Sturridge probably the biggest two), might help to stop the automatic selections...maybe.
Who is this mythical 'we' though? I don't know anyone that thinks in that way regarding the national side and even the media are warier than they used to be.
The accusation of the national side/nation getting carried away just doesn't seem to ring true any more.
