This is nothing to do with generation snowflake or the dumbing down of anything. This is more to do with the fact that language isn't a fixed concept, it is fluid and is constantly changed by its users. Always has and always will do.

We constantly update or dictionaries to reflect this phenomenom.

It's too do with utter morons inability to find and use an already existing word to describe something. Instead of using the correct word for a situation they use a word incorrectly until a bigger bunch of morons adopt it into their language.

Racist as example used to be an incredibly powerful word. Now that it's being thrown around by previously mentioned morons as a catch all word to throw at anyone who shares a differing view on many topics (which have no relevance to a persons racial background). It's lost its meaning and power.

Fluidity seems to go hand in hand with stupidity.

Oh christ. Typical for someone to be outraged because of a word, rather than the connotation of it.

She looks like she needs therapy after that traumatic event in her life.
she couldn't give a flying fvck about the word, Its usage or the connotation , she's just trying to show how liberal caring and inclusive she is.

Yes, directed at collective groups of people incapable of critical thinking. Sheeple in other words.

Actually moron was once a term used almost exclusively by psychologists. After its overuse by people outside of the profession it's been used less and less.

According to Wikipedia it was also a term loosely tied to the Eugenics movement in America:

During the Progressive Era of the late 19th and early 20th century, eugenics was considered a method of preserving and improving the dominant groups in the population; it is now generally associated with racist and nativist elements as the movement was to some extent a reaction to a change in emigration from Europe rather than scientific genetics.[10]

The more you know.

To clarify, the irony in you repeatedly using a word to describe people also repeatedly using a word is quite delicious.

It sums up the generation who have been through the education system with the "No losers" Sports days. Things don't go their way, like the Brexit Vote and Trump Victory, and as they have no concept of what losing actually feels like they cannot handle it.

.

They should be forced to support West Ham for a few years.....they'll understand what losing's all about then!!!!!!

Definition of moron
1
usually offensive : a person affected with mild mental retardation
2
: a very stupid person

Seems it's being used correctly. Next.

Oh definitely. The fun is in you using a word which was cast aside by psychologists owing to its overuse to deride people overusing the word 'racist'.

See, that's funny.

EDIT: Not to mention the word itself has, in the past, racist connotations.

Definition of racism
1
: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2
a : a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles
b : a political or social system founded on racism
3
: racial prejudice or discrimination

The fun part is using a word correctly in relation to it's meaning in the dictionary.

Your boring history lesson was pointless as it has nothing to do with the current dictionary meaning which was the premise of the discussion. That being the snowflake morons constantly use the term racist incorrectly.

Disagree. History lessons aren't boring. I mean, only a moron would think that.

All while using a word that's meaning has been changed over time to insult people changing a word's meaning.

....and apparently not being able to see the irony oozing from every pore.

Except that dictionaries just record the use of language, they don't say how it should be used so if enough people are using the word racist "incorrectly" then that use will be come a definition in the dictionary and therefore be "correct". A bit like moron.

If someone keeps calling a dog a cat and enough idiots follow suit a dog is still a dog except now the word has just been corrupted by a bunch of idiots. Is that what you're getting at?

Do we really want to encourage such halfwits and reward their stupidity with legitimacy?

There is no irony.

Until the word changes in the dictionary to reflect another meaning anyone who uses it outside of its definition is an uneducated moron :)

The irony would only be present if I was using the term moron incorrectly.

Do you understand irony now?

Language had been corrupted and *******ised for centuries, this is how we arrived at our current definitions and meanings. It will continue to do the same and there is nothing any of us can do about it, this is the nature of language.

If everyone did suddenly start calling dogs cats them yes that is what they would be. Obviously the animal wouldn't change just the label we put on it.

If only you could think for yourself and not be governed by the dictionary, honestly some sheeple! :)

That's the point isn't it? A powerful word like racist is being corrupted by a bunch of ignorant twats who are too lazy or stupid to use a word whose definition fits their needs e.g bigot

If someone uses racist in a way that does not relate to the actual meaning why validate this persons opinion as a fact or a truth. Call them out on their stupidity for all to see.
