22 fouls by a side is ever such a lot. Probably more than any team over 90 minutes since we returned to the Championship.

Sunderland committed 29 fouls at the Amex, but they lost their rag in extra time and more than 7 occurred then.

I suspect that Raf instructed Newcastle to play the pressing game from the outset and try and stop us passing which worked in the first half when they were the better side. Then they tired.

Fouls were 22-13 and proper tackles 14-13. Was the referee overly fussy? Or every player hyped up?

CF: we committed 17 fouls against Derby (13-17) Murray 4 Skalak 4; and 20 (20-15) against Forest at home. Murray and Hemed 7 between them.

As I said he had 2 saves to make in the entire game and saved neither what other shots did he have to save? The first he moved to his left as the kick was taken had he stayed where he was when he lined the wall up he would have saved it. The 2nd was unsaveable.
If the 2nd. was unsaveable, then it wasn't a save he had to make. So, just one save he 'had' to make, then.

Another game which a very, very poor ref flattens with a stupid sending off. Frustrated at Sam as it was simply not worth risking, but mainly frustrated at the inconsistency of the referee. A couple of their players on cards continually bringing down our players but he fails to even things out. I didn't even think it was a foul btw, if anything it looked like the keeper punted him. Yellow card for that is an absolute joke.

Very poor first half, but started very promisingly in the second. Hit the bar, then similarly to boro as we were playing alot better he proceeds to send off Baldock. Game over and cue 35 mins of Newcastle time wasting and 10 yard sideways/reverse passing.

To be honest, both extremes of opinion piss me right off on here. Some of the players singled out don't deserve to be lambasted, but at the same time others stating Newcastle are some godly team and untouchable are also speaking toilet. They've been beaten twice already this season.

The defeat I can take, even the manner of the defeat I can suffer, what has me gutted at the moment is that Stephens was not brought on despite it being glaringly obviously Sidwell was having a very poor game. We really missed him in the middle, with Kayal being massively overworked. A midfield three might have worked out better. Ah well, if there was a game to bring Dale back into the fold it was this one. I've conceded we are losing him which is a massive concern, as today and reading should be indicative enough that we cannot replace him with what we already have.

Good post. I'd add that Duffy needs time to realise we don't lump the ball out of defence at the first opportunity like he's probably used to doing at Blackburn. Other than that, too many players had bad games - Skalak, Murray, Bong, Sidwell for starters (so all areas of the pitch).

Stephens is a goner for sure. Time for Norwood to claim his spot.

Our average for fouls this season is 16 the worst in the league followed by Newcastle 13.8 in third place.

We are third at being fouled at 14.8 in second place behind Derby at 16.

Last season it was 11.4 (10th place) fouling, being fouled 9.9 (18th)

The worse offenders this season are Murray 3.8, Skalak 2.6, Baldock 2.6.

Last season he worst were (regular players only) Sidwell 2.2, Kayal 1.9 Lualua 1.8
Most fouled Lualua 3.9 last season.

Last season our best tacklers were Kayal (5.3), Knockaert (4), Sidwell, Stephens Norwood for Reading would be included. All over 3 per game.

In other words three times more successful tackles than fouls.

Only goes to show that the TV performance, especially from Newcastle, was ruined by persistent fouling.
