I'm not too keen on the 'mood music' coming from Chris via the Argus... seems to be focussed on retaining our current stars (good) but down-playing the oh so obvious need for a new striker and central defender.

With you on that, my immediate thought when reading these quotes was that I may be disappointed with the hopes for CB and forward. Personally think both of these are critical if we want auto, we can now add midfielder to that if Stephens is also off. For those talking about not needing a defender surely that agreement has been ended with the injury to rosenior, potentially leaving us with a debutant at RB at Newcastle. Not something to look forward to.
If and it is a big if at the moment the departure of Stephens would I believe leave us no stronger than last season and possibly weaker, certainly in defence in my opinion.

Must sign a CB before Newcastle IMHO... and a striker before window closes... we just cannot be the 'nearly-men' this season... oh, and retain or replace Dale too...

Looks like Reading are going to sign Tyler Blackett from ManU. Arguably he would be ideal to plug the gap for us.
We must have targets, whether Duffy or someone else. Surely by midweek at the latest...........?

Not sure he'd be the answer. Seems to have struggled to get a regular place wherever he has gone. Last season, he only managed three appearances in the SPL. Hall (next one down our pecking order from Ben White) had more experience in the SPL than him.

So would any one take Jordan Rhodes of Middlesbrough as the striker

He got the goals when signed to get Middlesbro promoted and even at £12m if he did the same for us we could then sell him as Middlesbro are trying to do but having banked £180m for promotion could afford a couple of millions loss on his sale price.

Then can they offer him to us for £3m at most?

Liam Moore? This is the sort of player in whom we could be interested.

Sky sources: Leicester defender Liam Moore is contemplating handing in a transfer request as his frustration grows at not being allowed to leave the Premier League champions.

The 23-year-old has not been given a squad number or even a first team locker in the dressing room ahead of the 2016/17 season. He has 12 months left on his current contract and has turned down the offer of a new deal.

Championship club Reading have made at least one offer for Moore, who is keen to work with Jaap Stam at the Madejski Stadium.

(Liam Simon Moore is an English professional footballer who plays for Leicester City as a centre back and right back. )

Gone to Reading.

Liam Moore is a good buy for Reading. With movement by other clubs surely CH is closing in on a deal that has been ongoing.

Hmmmm - you'd certainly hope so, on several fronts! The silence is, as ever, unnerving though!
