What a horrible man, he is meant to protect not pass judgement before seeing the facts

Really ?

I suspect the truth about Hillsborough would never have come out had he not tireless campaigned about it

Which is surely exactly the reason he should not be making these comments. What he did there was good but what is he trying to achieve here?

You said he was a vile man, I am saying he is not

When you think of the terror threat & everything the French are dealing with, makes behaviour of these England "fans" even more embarrassing

You'd think he'd know better, having campaigned for the Hillsborough victims, for so long.

Yes it probably is to he honest and I will hold my hands up. However it is interesting more people have picked me up on my generalisation about the French than the sweeping generalisation about the English fans abroad.

It's all about being on the right band wagon when you are a politician :ffsparr: To be honest it looked a bit of a mismatch to me, 50 UFC fighters in black randomly beating up inebriated Brits. I'm more worried about the response when the "fans" meet up again before their next games.

Until all the reports come out, much is undecided.
I do think it was naive (or perhaps on purpose) to play this fixture in Marseilles, and i also think this was the case in 1998. So i presume the lesson from 1998 was let the hooligan element of the England fans come (sod the decent England fans) and just tear gas and harass all England fans, then disappear when the local and Russian fans turn up. It does seem that the French police had warnings of the gangs planning prior to the day.
Sad case of affairs.

My son was at the game last night.

I must admit to being pleased to get a message from him late last night when he was back at his campsite, half an hour outside Marseilles.

He's heading north this morning, couple of days in Dijon where hopefully things will be quieter.

I actually agree with you here. Not so much with the authorities but French people themselves. Utterly rude people who genrally don't like us as you say. I have experinced it a couple of times. They are my least favorite Euro nation of people. The Russians are bad as well. Shame because France has some lovely places and castles.

England has lots of 'lovely places and castles' too.....and more than it's share of utterly rude people. For what it's worth I find the French more than friendly when I'm over there

UEFA are charging the Russian FA with disciplinary proceedings. Hopefully the World Cup will be withdrawn, at the least, & their fans barred from matches.

I went to Marseille in the mid 70's and it was a hell hole then and it seems it's just the same now

This, I had the misfortune to celebrate my 18th birthday in Marseille in 1977, I had two guns pointed at me that night, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
A bar we were drinking in that evening, was attacked excactly a week later and nine people were shot dead,a drug turf war apparently.
It's a very rough place, away from the m the tourist areas

Yeah, like that's going to happen.

I know it's wishful thinking but plenty of evidence on Twitter of their fans attacking the English in the stadium.

There's also footage of a bloke laying on the ground (nationality Unknown) being beaten by police, & kicked by more police as they run past. Look on Michael Vaughan's twitter.

If thats the video I have seen going round its a few years old and to do with a protest, nothing to do with football

Glad to hear he is safe. Goes to prove that some who like to tarnish all England supporters as "white trash" etc, seem to forget the ordinary England followers.

Was that posted yesterday morning at 8.45 am, presumably he was commenting on the English yobs behavior in Marseille previous to yesterday's events?
