As someone who works at the BBC on a regular basis, Auntie has many flaws, but it is not institutionally biased. Nick Robinson, the chief political reporter in this year's election, is a former Young Conservative leader, Nigel Farage has appeared on Question Time more than any other politician in the last five years, Jeremy Paxman did apply once to be the editor of Labour supporting The New Statesman.

It appears to me, that whatever your political leanings, giving the BBC a kicking seems to be the in thing from all areas of the political spectrum precisely because it is independent, unlike the Express, from which you take your article.

Is it 'liberal' in the sense that is supports the arts, women, minorities and so on. Absolutely. Does it screw up on occasions? Yes it does, the Newsnight Jimmy Savile issue is a prime example of a producer flexing their muscles when they should not have done so. The BBC is also pretty fair in being willing to give a right of reply, unlike many of its print based critics.

The BBC is an easy target, it's funding is a historical anachronism, but it does still attempt to apply the Reithian edict of 'Inform, Educate and Entertain' to a far greater degree than any other broadcaster IMO, unless you think that someone else does a better job?

Fair enough although working for them on a regular basis you would possibly defend them. We will see in the run up to the referendum whether the BBC is unbiased.

Working there regularly I would quite happily criticise them too, as I also have worked with ITV, Sky and TalkSport.

As i said fair enough, let's just wait and see.

Isn't bias in the eye of the beholder though? It's a bit like referees at the Amex, those that give us decisions are good, those that give decisions against us are biased cheats.

Not a very good or relevant comparison imo. A ref may make a right decision on a split second incident, or completely make the wrong decision, he make get it spot on after we view footage. The BBC have the chance to research, change things, edit, or just not make a decision either way. A ref has to make a decision either way, it will not influence a major decision on our countries future....

Do you have any evidence to support your viewpoint that the BBC is institutionally biased towards the EU?

Do you think the Express reports EU related issues in a more objective and unbiased manner?

No evidence yet as the campaigns have not really got started, i just stated "THE BBC has admitted to taking a massive £2 million of funding from the European Union in the run up to the referendum.
This is not the first time the broadcaster has been accused of political bias.", which was from an article i read.
I doubt the Express are more objective or unbiased but it is a newspaper, not the BBC that is mean't to be impartial but has in the past been seen to be not impartial.

It was accused of not being impartial by the SNP, after they had lost the independence vote.

It could have been that like many politicians the SNP were looking for a scapegoat to blame for their own inability to persuade the Scottish people to say yes to independence.

It's a bit insulting of politicians to conclude that people are incapable of making up their own minds on the issue though, and just do what they're told by the BBC surely?

Especially as there are other media outlets than the BBC who were running stories on the same issue.

You made the point earlier that Farage had been on the BBC more than any other politician, well he has been representing UKIP on there, a UKIP member is not on there every week, unlike the Tories and Labour that have a representative on there EVERY week. When the Libs were the 3rd biggest party they also had a representative on EVERY week. It was Con, Lab and Lib with the occasional UKIP.
Farage brings in the viewers, that it why he is picked to represent UKIP nearly every time.

Should a party that had no MP's until a year or so ago appear on QT every week?

I think we have mentioned this many times, the BBC was biased and left wing, it was freely admitted by the former Director General. I think there are still examples apart from the SNP that highlight this.

Mark Thomson said it was biased in the 70's and 80's but that was no longer the case.

Liam Fix asking that the Tory cabinet be allowed to campaign for OUT if they want to. Good luck with that Liam.

Fair enough.

Just a point though. If Farage gets his way and we come out of the EU, then he loses his job, and UKIP might not carry on.
Now Farage has more knowledge about the EU as he attends the meetings, why does he want us to leave, no benefit to him or the party according to many on here.
