i know the polling is suggesting otherwise, but his seat is a traditionally Tory seat with recent switch to Liberals, i dont see he'll lose a 15k and +30% majority.

You may be right. I put myself in the body of a Sheffield Hallam dwelling Clegg loyalist. As much as I like the guy and respect him greatly as an orator and even appreciate that fate dealt him a next to impossible hand, I just don't see how I can vote for him.

Could well be this election's Portillo moment.

PR v FPTP. We have a demoncratic system where the majority of the country aren't represented by the people they voted for. Is that good for democracy? As I said, I think most people vote for a party anyway so what would be wrong with the party list for a PR basis of elections? As for MPs, aren't they selected anyway by their party?

Like many in today's political aristocracy Harriet was born into the establishment, benefitted from her connections and despite being MP for Peckham would not send her children to the same schools as her constituents.........sound familiar?

Looks nice, but pricey.........I wonder how many people in Peckham had this kind of education? What do you think?

They must be saving the good stuff I'm guessing. This "story" is possibly more desperate than the Ed Milliband had consensual sex with other women before he met his wife one the other day.

possibly, the numbers are similar. though a more likely Portillo moment will be Ed Balls, sitting on a 2k majority. surprised he didnt sawap seats. i think for most Liberals, if one can move on from tutition fees, and i wish everyone would, one has to say the Liberals have had a reasonable innings with thier first power. to reject him is essentially to reject to the notion of holding power.

I come from a large and hard working Brightonian family.
We can trace family well back to Brghthelmstone and beyond.
I got out of the UK a dozen or so years ago.
I stay in contact with my family though and ALL of them say that this last five years of Tory government has been the hardest of their lives.
Most of them are small business people or are working for somebody else.
They are worse off than they have ever been.
They are praying for a Labour win.

But don't worry, the inheritance tax threshold is increasing to 1m!

Being serious, your post succinctly puts why I will be voting Labour. The nation needs to look after ordinary decent people and not just concentrate on a few cronies at the top.

If I was the Tory strategist Id be taking Osborne out of the limelight. Claiming he went to a girl's school, and unable to explain where 8bn is coming from.....he's losing it.

I'll give you Lucas has been a fine MP and I would hope she is re-elected but really Machiavelli, you need to take those Green tinted spectacles off. You can't defend the Greens with 'none had any experience of running the council' - these are supposedly intelligent professional adults. Yet they've made an utter pigs ear of running the council. People don't want 'Vicar of Dibley' amateur jam making style councillors - they want councillors that are responsive and know how to run a multi-million pound organisation.

I could rant for pages but here's three simple examples of how Green councillors / perspective MPs have acted poorly ( and yes, I've posted some of them before and I'm sure my grandchildren, when I get some, will be as bored with them as you ) :

1. At the time if the first Green budget the Greens wanted to increase allotment fees and I was an allotment holder. I campaigned against this and contacted both my local councillors and those on the committee responsible for allotments. Have a guess the only councillors not to even have the professionalism to respond ? You've got it - the Greens. Well that was until they lost the vote when I then received an email attacking the Tories and Labour for ganging up on the Greens. The Green councillors were so amateur that they even copied in the Tory and Labour councillors I'd contacted !

2. We had a lot of problems with anti-social behaviour and drug dealing in Hangleton and I spent a lot of personal time working with our councillors, police and councillor officers to deal with it. All agreed that CCTV in the local park would aid the desire to stamp this out. So I spent hours door knocking and getting people to sign a petition. This was then presented to council by Tony Janio with the support of all our local councilors, council officers and even the police. What happens ? Ben Duncan ( who represented the Green Party at the time ) tweeted about the Tories wanting to spy of our kids in parks. Firstly what was the tw@t doing on Twitter during a council meeting and secondly he shouldn't have belittled normal people in such a way. I even invited him on a tour of Hangleton to show him what the issues were - he couldn't even be bothered to respond.

3. I belong to several campaign groups that are attempting the stamp out the bullying and abuse by private parking companies. Given this, I wrote to every candidate standing as MP in Hove. Have had detailed responses from all of them bar one .... have a guess which one hasn't even acknowledged me ?

As I said, I could come up with numerous more examples and the really galling thing is that I actually voted for the f**kers in the last local elections ! I won't be making the same mistake again. To use a Richard Hebberd quote, the Greens, "I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire".

All of these are genuine complaints, but they have little to do with policy decisions taken by the council.

Although these real first-hand examples are good enough reason not to vote for them, IMO. I'd like to think Westdene wouldn't vote for anyone behaving like this, even if those councillors were UKIP.
