By everyone, he hasn't been convicted of anything so is innocent until proven guilty.

As he's already been named he'll always have this hanging over him even if he's proven to be completely innocent of all alleged wrong doings. The law needs to change to keep the name of alleged offender out of the press until such times they are convicted, not only to protect them if them if innocent but to give a better chance of a fair trial for both the sake of the accused and the victim. You only need look at what happened to Christopher Jefferies to see what can happen to an innocent man when wrongly arrested.

by the system of justice we have in this country.

im pretty surprised by the BBC naming and the person, i was expecting it to be someone alot younger, especially with the gun reference.

Silly old bat

He hasn't been charged with anything. He is being questioned under caution.
If and when he is charged, then you can think that there might be something in the allegation, but then that's down to a court of law and jury.

Very much this, lets wait and see, speculation is pointless.

In the psychology of things why does a story that is 'salacious' 'scandalous' and 'shocking' interest us so much? It always does,
Send your answers and confessions to The Rivet c/o NSC.....lol

11 caps, and he hasn't played for England for 3 years. He's been utter gubbins at Sunderland. I think his England career was over some time ago.

If your talking about AJ then I cannot agree at all, I dont know where you got that from, obviously cannot watch many games

oh dear ......that's bad luck , to be arrested merely on suspicion of doing something that the fine men of Rotherham's migrant community have been allowed to get away with , wonder if he is accused of kidnapping and drugging the girl or if it was consensual ....??!!

I'm all for innocent until proved guilty but some Sunderland fans on that forum were wanting to chant his name at this weeks game?

WTF is wrong with some people?

Admittedly not. But my impression is he's hardly pulled up any trees there, I don't recall seeing him doing much of note when I have seen Sunderland, and his career has nosedived these last few years since he last broke into the England squad. He died on his arse at City (which happens for a lot of English players in fairness), but Sunderland was a chance to get regular football and re-launch his career. Has he taken it ? Not from where I'm sitting.

He has scored some very important goals though, very much including the one at SJP this season

Sure, but he's not the player he could, or should have been IMO. He deserved his England callups 3/4 year ago, I liked him a lot as a player. Quick, direct, pacey and with an eye for goal. But for whatever reason, I think he stagnated since then. A comfortable wage and lack of desire maybe.

The case for naming the person who has been arrested, at this stage in the enquiries, is that this encourages other victims (if there are any) to come forward to assist in the enquiry. "Innocent until proved guilty" isn't the only piece of public policy that matters.

Makes no real difference, anything under 16? (I think) and its still illegal

Unless you live in other parts of the world, or your religion allows you!

This is disgusting if true.

Now imagine if there were strong rumours of a paedophile scandal involving high ranking establishment figures. I'd imagine you wouldn't be able to hear over the outcry for that to be investigated quickly and accurately.

There were some vile chants from a small proportion of our fan base at Peterborough? away just after Dunk etc had been questioned.

All teams have mindless elements in their fanbase.
