Is there any of Spielbergs films that you don't like?

As for the OP, I might watch both but if I only get round to seeing one it will be Django. Inglorious Bastards was very good, and Tarantino has definitely (almost) grown up. There's no point in comparing his films to Pulp Fiction as he's changed his style with age. Lincoln sacres me as it's got Spielberg at the helm of an 'america' movie. Not sure I would be able to cope with the sentimentality.

No. His weakest film is Always and even that has some great moments.

Some yanks must be doing their nut over a non-American playing Lincoln, in the same way that many didn't realise that the main character in Homeland was a bloody Limey until they heard him speak at the awards ceremony. Whatever next? A yank playing Margaret Thatcher?!

I doubt if he directs to 90 Spielberg will ever surpass

Schindler's List
ET - The Extraterrestrial
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Saving Private Ryan

I thought SPR overrated, despite the opening and closing half hours. Spielberg is (or at least has been) capable of genius, and when you look at things like ET, Schindler's List, Jaws, Raiders, and despite searching you see nothing wrong with them, nothing at all, you are reminded of the heights he's reached. As with Tarantino, though to a vastly lesser extent, take away his enormous budgets and I bet he'd come up trumps again.

Spielberg has mad about 4 absolute stonkers, about 5 mediocre films and a raft of shit. It's just a fact.

This raft of shit you mentioned, got any titles to support that comment?

Indeed I do. Comfortable? Good, we'll begin: Always, Twilight Zone the Movie, A.I, Hook, 1941, Minority report, Catch me if you Can, TinTin, War of The Worlds, The Lost World, Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, Warhorse, Amistad.

Extremely subjective, but Warhorse and Catch Me If You Can are fantastic films, if you like that sort of thing. If you don't, that is hardly the fault of mr Spielberg.

It is of course a matter of opinion. Your opinion, the wrong one and my opinion, the correct one. A bad film is a bad film.

It has no substance and is rambling and a fairly uninteresting story stretched over an overlong film. Plus it has a 12 year old in the leading man role.

Your opinion is worth exactly the same as mine, and if you don't think Catch Me is an interesting story then of course you wouldn't like the film. But you not liking it doesn't mean it is "shit", to paraphrase your original comment.

Re you drunk man. Utter bobbins. The film is an unadulterated shambles, shame on you.

If that is how you feel about that, I'd love to know your thoughts on Australia by Baz Lurhmann. Totally irrelevant, granted, but I am curious.

Australia, not seen it mainly because it looks awful. Cannot stand Baz Lurhmann, his films are too bombastic and ride roughshod over the nuances of the source material he uses. I am not looking forward to seeing the mess he makes of The Great Gatsby.

If you ever find yourself with a spare 12 hours, give Australia a go. It redefines how bad a film can be. It has a good cast, but that is it. It really can not be emphasised enough how long it feels, and how boring it is.

This was my general view and why I haven't bothered with it. Can't abide that Nicole Kidman, her voice is too high pitched and she's got no tits.

Leonardo Di Cappuccino :love:and Christoph Waltz are very good in Django Unchained. Saw it this evening. Don't think i'll bother with Lincoln. I've heard it's a bore-fest

Saw Django already, which was not anything like a film of the year and will see Lincoln when it's out with a full chest of groans warmed up for it. Although i haven't much in there since Les Mis which was a huge basket of youwhatthefuckery.
As the song in Chicago went...."What ever happened to class".
