Poll - We have had a big influx of posters in the last year ( I think?)

Has NSC improved with the influx of posters?

The 'new' clique? There's always been a clique, I even tried to join it once back in 1999
Indeed. I do miss the good old no-holds-barred binfests, the ruder and more personal the insults then the better it was. As has been pointed out I do get the feeling that, as Lord B mentioned, some of the newer users don't 'get' NSC and behave like Muslims when presented with a picture of Mohammed. However in their defence I don't think that's specific to NSC, rather I think it's part of a growing intolerance in Britain where everyone has to conform to a narrow mindset of what is considered 'acceptable'. (And NSC has been a victim of that intolerance in the past, as those of us who remember 'racegate' can testify)

However as the venerable Simster has pointed out NSC has always changed and the current cliquey, facebook-esque posting is really no worse than the days of threads with titles like "Gezza, Harveys, Cannarian - check your emails." (And to prove how NSC evolves two of those three don't post on here any more and the other is sadly no longer with us)

Dwayne even grew up, unfortunately (well for us anyway). One of my favourite binfests was his random attack on Atilla whilst banned and posting under the pseudonym Rob Roy. He really didn't like the leather jacket.

I really do miss threads like that

Even Guy Butter's joined in with his " f*** your rivalry with Palace" when there was a thread about how shit our defence was

I'm slightly concerned that a growing proportion of NSC users don't seem to "get it". That could change the character of the site.

But who am I to stand in the way of retrogression?

They only need to be directed to NSC Gold

Happy days! Still think the 'Recruitment Consultants' one was one of the best. I still can't see the term 'recruitment consultant' without thinking 'I shagged your mum'.

EDIT: Maybe that could be part of the T&Cs for new users? When you sign up to NSC you have to tick a box saying you've read that thread and that you promise to maintain those standards. Could also have a box for new fans saying "I have read 'Half-time at Hereford'."

The best ever thread by far on NSC. I remember watching that with amazement. I'd love to know what Frank's blood pressure was that day.

Having said that, the joke deconstruction of the sandwich joke by MoH (''It's PARMA HAM) was for me one of the funniest threads on here and its a travesty it didn't make gold. I'd start a campaign but I really can't be arsed.

at home
I remember when quite a few folk on here used to get their usernames on the back of their shirts, have lots of in conversations, and have grand meet ups as if they were all mates in real life or something. Id say we have just gone full circle thats all. Seems to be some serious hypersensitivity right now though.

to be fair, a lot of fans did know eachother , especially when we were at Gillingham and you got to know everyone as we were all in the same boat, ditto with the fight for Falmer etc....

I still regard a lot of posters on here as mates ( probably one sided but hey) also from the REMF golf and footy.

How far back do you have had to joined the site to be classed as a newbie?

I personally liked the site 10 years ago however i'm sure this has more to do with the Google ad restrictions we now have... I only use to login to see the latest 'Thread Full Of Beautiful Ladies' posts

I think we should have a poll to ascertain just when we went to our first match at the Goldstone. I reckon I'd have a pretty good standing with 1973 although not as good as some.

Lol!

Seriously though, this thread is a bit like asking 'did you prefer when we had just a few thousand knocking about an old athletics track or do you prefer the top spec Amex, packed to the rafters and heaving with old and new Albion fans?'

Got to accept change if we want to grow.

1967 first Goldstone. In the last year for posting on NSC. Didn't know NSC existed till I googled "Mike Bamber"

It did. It went gold straight away and is still in there.

Joke Du Jour

Oh and I agree. Funniest thread I've read on here.

I know I have a vested interested, as it's 'mine'.
But for the newbies that don't get NSC, I always say this thread sums us up:-

Desert Orchid has died

6 words, 1 statement of fact = 167 posts, an almighty binfest, at least 2 flounces.

Happy days.

For me, the board would be improved if new members could be limited to maybe 5 posts a day for the first 12 months of their membership.

Reckon there should be some kind of cap on things. Noticed some kiddie on here the other day who only joined last month and already has a thousand posts to their name. You can sort of guess how many of those will be worth reading.

I would guess that's me, please read some of my posts before this weekend, nobody had any problem with them. By the way I post a lot because I am disabled and the internet is my main contact with the world. Please read my 2012 blog in my sig for my story.
I have never know a forum where you get stick for contributing too much, I was just having a really good time.

I did mean you actually, though I was trying to be nice and not mention you by name. And genuine apologies for not knowing the background to your levels of posting. My bad  Hope you continue to have a really good time here, it's a great read!

I have tried to speak here about my life because it is not a 'normal' one, it's has taken a 'different' path and does confuse those who do not know about it, it's totally understandable.
