Just far enough away from LDC
Conan Doyle brought Holmes back but not Moriarty.

It was great stuff last night and I haven't a scooby how it was done - apart from the obvious of Molly being involved somehow. I wonder if Moffat has fully worked out the details yet.

The third series had been commissioned at the same time as the second but the cast and crew were sworn to secrecy. I'm sure that Moffat and Gatiss know how it happened and sowed enough clues into the last 20 mins to ensure it holds water.

They'd have already filmed the 'how it was done' bit.

My take: Molly was involved, and Sherlock got her to get the entire staff who helped 'rescue' the body involved. Obviously the bike thing was pre-arranged (just watched it back - definitely a bloke who knocks Watson over) in order that a vital element of the 'rescue' is missed by Watson.

My guess is that Holmes was elsewhere, and just got Watson (and therefore us) to look at entirely the wrong building. We saw a Sherlock-shaped dummy on the roof with a phone to his ear. What fell off the roof was a blood-pouched Sherlock-masked cadaver, with some mechanism in his arm to throw the phone down just before he fell / pushed.

Ah, bollocks - I've no idea.

Sherlock arranged to meet on the roof, so did he know that Moriarty would want him to jump from the roof? any plans for a body double would depend on that. If H had wanted him to shoot himself, then what?

The Jeremy Brett series was superb, and the film with RDJr was very close to the feel of the series. the one thing that let this series down was that Sherlock, with all his intellect, had ditched his blackberry for an iphone. That would have Sir Arthur turning in his grave!

Just watched this again to fill the void of the postponed match as I missed a bit of it on Sunday.

1) You clearly see Sherlock jump
2) You see a body hit the floor
3) You see Watson round a corner and see a body (and no-one around) on the floor plus a nice comfy looking landing in the refuse open backed lorry.
4) SPLIT SECOND LATER Watson is knocked over and distracted (at the same time you see the body with no lorry and a crowd of people right by it
5) You then see the crowd gather round the body with no lorry in view
6) Watson then goes over and feels the pulse of clearly Sherlock wearing the same clothes

so, in my expert opinion that's a poor continuity error mascaraing as the "explanation". They may try and say he landed in the refuse lorry there for a split second, but they should have had it drive off really.

It's all set up for the cut scene to say "remember the refuse lorry? Elementary my dear Watson"

When taking the pulse the hand and finger nails look very pale/blue like that of someone who's been dead longer than 30 seconds or so?

Did he actually feel his pulse though? Someone suggested Watson's hand was pushed away by a medic before that happened.

I can't help thinking that there is a reason we were shown the mannequin hanging at Sherlock's at the start of the episode. Unless it was just alluding to the suicide that was going to occur...

I watched again on iPlayer - my conclusion is that I don't have a clue how he did it. All Sherlock Holmes fans would have known (from the original story) that he didn't actually die in the original of "The Final Solution". It makes for an interesting twist that we know he isn't dead but don't know he he managed to do it. Can't wait for the next series.

He did for a few good seconds but didn't clearly look at the face.

Holmes had no time to do a body swap, so looks like lorry and doctor on the scene are the key things. Checked all the crowd to see if that Molly was there but couldn't see her.

The seaside.
Rubbish annoying show with everyone in it having faces you instantly want to punch. Just like Doctor Who but even worse. Who the hell is Moffat shagging in the Illuminati to get this rubbish on air. PS Molly and the Irregulars involved, SH landed on something soft out of Frownface's view, was laid out and quickly bloodbagged/deathfingered etc, right hand deliberately left out for FF to briefly pulse check, used the squash ball he was bouncing when FF last saw him to stop his pulse on that side (like how mediums do), nothing too clever involved, it's a show aimed at thickos after all.

Hmmm.

Well we know he isnt dead. And I think Watson knows too..... remember what he says at the headstone... he knows Holmes is alive but wants him to come back. Think Watson did work it out on the day in his befuddled state but is playing along but is now either beginning to have doubts or is exasperated because Holmes hasnt contacted him.

... which would be typical Holmes.

When Sherlock went into interview the little girl who was kidnapped, she screamed her head off and pointed at him. To my mind, this means that Moriarty had already made a very convincing Sherlock mask. I wonder if this was used to fake the suicide?

I think the refuse lorry landing seems the most sensible idea.

There must also have been a Sherlock mask or look-a-like for when the children were abducted to explain why the girl was scared of him
