Jason Scotland - bid by Brighton

He is small but very stocky, thought he looked excellent against us about 3 seasons ago for Swansea without even scoring.

I think he looked very good at Swansea but only in a 4-5-1 formation and at 32 I'm not convinced he has the legs to play that role still.

It sounds like he prefers 442 actually, and criticism he does receive is as a result of his lack of movement and workrate in a 451 formation...
(there's also a recent comment somewhere from an Ipswich supporter saying JS declared his preference for 442 when he joined).

Jewell's doing a Micky Adams - just signing someone who he's managed before, no matter what they've done since. I'd much rather have JS, anyone who says he's not good enough, not Poyet's kind of player or he doesn't suit our style of play is a cupid stunt.

Jack Straw? Bloody good photographer and weekly NSC blogger. Footballer?

Fair enough, he defiitely played upfront on his own against us and looked good. Not overly sure what his ideal strike partner would be though as he's strong but not tall, agile but not fast. A weird one.

Interesting comment by an Ipswich fan...

"Scotlands recent goal record is far better than Ellingtons. However, clearly either Priskin or Scotland will move on this Summer - and it would seem that Scotland is the one attracting the interest. Personally, and as I have said before, I think Scotland has been unlucky - playing in a negative one up as a very isolated striker simply doesn't suit him. Doesn't have the pace. He scores goals in a 4-4-2 and for me is better than Ellington. "

By the sounds of it they've put him up front on his own, hense the low goals per game ratio in his most recent stint in the Championship. I am encouraged by this, as the last time he played in the Championship in a team playing free-flowing football he was BANGING them in. With the attacking support & pace which would be surrounding him, he could be a vital cog in the team next year if Gus decides he's the man.

One fans view then.
Thats like another teams fan coming on here, reading The complete Badgers evaluation of Michel Kuipers and thinking he's worth millions.
The signing of J. scotland would be a little underwhelming IMO.

People are saying from todays Evening Argus, Gus states - there is no bid for Scotland,

just newspaper speculation?

But my interpretation is purely based on the fact that he is being played in a position which does not suit him, I am not taking the 'better than Ellington' comment & blowing it out of proportion - as you say, that is one fans view. However, I think I can safely take a fans comment that he is being played upfront on his own as accurate... I would be excited by this acquisition, if anything comes of it.

Banging them in for fun when used in his prefered formation in the Championship, to the extent he earnt a move to the Premiership. Imo wouldn't be the big name, so as another option would be superb. Think some people on here have way, way too high expectations. Could you name a striker you would prefer for a reasonable fee?

Exactly. He is a realistic target and in the past has flourished in a team similar to us in style. Would be a good solid acquisition, providing he doesn't cost too much.

Oh phuey what does Poyet know , hes just the manager , this is NSC , the threads only just got started :)

In fairness the original SSN article didn't say we had made a bid - only that we had shown interest. Gus has confirmed that we have not made a bid and made no comment on whether we are interested in the player. Knowing the Argus this is probably because the reporter didn't ask! :lolol:

He didn't actually say that, he just said they're looking at a lot of players. Basically a no comment.

There are an awful lot of good players who are Free Agents as we speak and I would prefer to pick one of those up than take Scotland. And I'm sure most of them would relish a final fling in the Championship with an ambitious club and Gus at the helm.

Examples? Imo most looked far from appealing to me.

I'm surprised it wasn't Priskin we went in for with all the Watford links.

It is suggested Scotland would be an Immense signing, from his photo he seems to be carrying some weight and at 32 past his best, hope Poyet has something better lined up.

Poyet has played down the Scotland reports but hasn't ruled out a move for Chris Wood, great.

Gus might be saying that we haven't put in an offer to buy the country , which supports the £3M theory.
