Ashley Barnes isn't nearly good enough for us.

So I suppose he has made it as a player in a sense that he has played a large part in helping a team win a Championship (we will win it) however lets see where he spends the majority of his career and I would say his likely to be a Div 1 at best but more likely Div 2.

You are moving the goalposts now though, the OP said he was not good enough for us, not that he was not enough to be a Championship player.

I suspect very few fans think of Barnes as our number one striker, but then he cost £60k compared to Muzza's £300k. What I can't understand is that we are top of the league after a good few dismal seasons and some fans still get more enjoyment out of having a go at players etc.

Why not just enjoy it while it lasts, history tells us we spend as much time at the bottom of a division as we do at the top.

Barnes has done great and been unlucky not to score more:)
Bloody bargain at 60k and still young, can't believe people actually slate him.

I would never slate or criticise a player from the stands, I'm only giving my opinion on the player which I'm entitled to do. Sometimes I'm wrong and ill admit it if Barnes proves me wrong, which he slowly is. My point still stands that he has missed an awful amount of chances, which all good strikers do but not to the extent that he has.

Ps - Am loving this season, I am currently seeing the best style of football I have ever seen from a Brighton side and long may in continue.

What more does he have to do? Someone (Acker I think) has already shown that his goals to chances ratio is as good as other strikers in the top ten scorers. The fact that he makes chances shows how good a player he is.

No one is saying you are not entitled to an opinion, all strikers miss chances, the OP made allegations about Barnes being a coward, which I think is what has upset a lot of fans.

Improve his all round game strength on the ball, distribution and awareness. I'm not suggesting he doesn't possess any of these qualities but they certainly need to be improved.

A more pertinent question at the moment is, is he as good as Wood? In my opinion no. And will he make it in the Championship? Again I think he may struggle. But as I previously said I would love to be proved wrong as it means he will be doing the business on the pitch.

I haven't read this thread from the start, just responding to the more recent posts. And certainly "Isn't nearly good enough for us" is far too strong and incorrect as he has made a good contribution this season. Being a coward? I'm not aware that he is and I haven't seen evidence of this in the fifteen or so games I have watched this season. My judgement on him mainly stems from the fact he has generally been the weakest or one of the weakest players on the pitch when I have seen us play.

Wood is a Premiership player on loan. As El Pres said, the goal posts are being moved as Mr Burns started the thread (and title) that Barnes isn't nearly good enough for us (us, a third division team) which is clearly a mistaken opinion.

Just seen the goal, and that was a class finish by barnes yesterday. You have got remember barnes is only 22 and this is his first full season in a league side, 14 goals is a very good return for this season, his only going to get better and better!

He's a player who is good now and will get better. Mr burns might get upset that this thread gets bounced every time Barnes scores but maybe it'll be a salutary lesson to other 'experts' who fancy slagging off a player they just don't happen to like, To micro analyse a player just to try and justify what now look rather stupid remarks just shows somebody who is too arrogant to admit that they are wrong.
Thats so funny. How many times do people use the line that I don't like him and slag him off because of that. I'll say it again, I dont know him to not like him, and I didn't slag him off. Its could critism, albeit harsh.

How many times will people say I dont like seeing this threads bounce. Again the more the merrier.

Again, I have said I'm more than willing to admit I was wrong, as i have and was with bridcutt. Although it was a great goal yesterday, I still don't think he's got a future. He may be a reasonable Division 1 or 2 player, but he's not good enough for the side we have and the direction we are going.

I never directly called him a coward. Someone who pulls out and avoids tackles, yes. A lightweight, yer.
