We used to start off at the William Tell, feeding the video jukebox only to find that your selection would never appear. Then it was down to the Pavillion Tavern, then onto Smugglers, Henneckys and then Shades, before entering Coasters.

Afterwards, walking up West Street avoiding the so called West Street Firm, with their kickers and stone washed jeans, we would either have a doner kebab in that takeaway just up from Pink Coconut or go to the Market Diner.

Very rarely we would have some really disgusting meal at a takeaway at the bottom of St Jamess street. It was run by 3 really fat women. They seemed to go up in sizes, much like Russian Dolls.

Oh and the Hungry Years was full of rockers on a weekend, but boy was it full of foreign skirt during the week. Many a happy college night on a weds/thursday.

Happy days

Wasn't The Pav Tav and Shades the same pub?

Hungry Years! Now you're talking!

Anybody go to Cinderellas at Stroods Motel up the A23?

Got a bit of a reputation of having heavy handed bouncers

Got closed down because of the trouble

:drink:

we used to go there....just a pain as one had to drive

Was the William Tell on Queens Road at more or less where the Albion shop is (or was the last time I was there)? I remember watching Rio amongst on the video jukebox there. Was there not also a really trendy bar downstairs from it in the early 80s which played really cool Indie such as a Certain Ratio, Gang of Four and Joy Division? Can't remember if it was part of the William Tell or along from it but remember walking down a spiral staircase to it.

There was also a Video jukebox at Smugglers I think? Remember watching Nik Kershaw on video there amongst others. Smugglers was handy for Night Fever.

Remember going to Coasters on Friday nights with Rory the gay Glaswegian DJ. Once got beaten up by Kenny Doctor for no reason whatsoever. A local hardnut who looked a bit like Chris Kamara I seem to remember.

Anyone remember Fagans underneath the ABC? The first pub in Brighton I got served. An underager's paradise. I got asked my date of birth and had been practising it for hours beforehand. Got pished on 3 pints of lager and went home very happy. Had a great night for under a fiver.

Great nights also in the Volunteer, Shades, The Old Vic, Sister Rays, the Quadrant, the Fortune of War, the King & Queen, The Belvedere, the Savannah, Escape.

I was actually in Oceana last Wednesday night - student night. Not quite sure how me and my brothers got in but we did and had a great night. Really weird going back into the Top Rank Suite after nearly 25 years absence.

Once went in Bentleys on West Street with my Dad. It was like the Winchester club!

I remember Toppers, The Belvedere, and Monty's in Montpelier St too..

Where was Sister Rays's ? name rings a bell..

Was there a club underneath a kebab shop in the hove end of western road ?

Yes there was. A plain wooden door, with a bouncer outside. I remember seeing a barman change a lager barrel in about thirty seconds flat there, as they were behind the bar area :clap2:
