And

The comment I objected to was "wronged by the whole country". Neither I nor anyone else has suggested a Liverpool fan chucking a bottle deserves special dispensation. No, the fucker should be locked up and banned from football.

@Guinness Boy has suggested the "wronged by the whole country" comment was made entirely because Liverpool fans boo the national anthem, and he thought he'd make a joke about this, because presumably we all know this. Personally I don't find chucking bottles a coaches remotely funny. Why anyone would want to use the booing of a national anthem to make a joke about bottle throwing is a mystery. It is not a comedy narrative that has any traction with me. I don't get the joke.

At the same time I am invited to believe that in no way was the "wronged by the whole country" quip made it because it resonates with the perception among many that Liverpool fans have spent decades banging on about being vilified for 'causing' Hillsborough (hence the 'always the victim' trope that has even been posted on NSC in the past, and which informed some comments made by Boris Johnson, for which he was forced to apologise), and that their boycotting of The Sun (which is reciprocated by Everton supporters) is pathetic. And so on. Always the victim

Personally, "wronged by the whole country" seems to map better to the 'always the victim' trope rather than something to do with booing the national anthem.

But I may be wrong and if so I apologize to @Guinness Boy for my incorrect inference.
You are wrong.

It's about them not feeling part of England or Britain. They boo the national anthem because they feel the land they live in has wronged them.

It's a pet peeve and, let's face it, any scouser that's made a bit of cash historically has been out of there faster than you can say "The Beatles" :moo:

Not all of them..

Gerrard turned down the move to Chelsea...

(...after being 'advised' by scouse gangsters, of the consequences if he did)

Ken Dodd was born and died in the same house. Paul McCartney often goes back to his Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts

There are many more who have made a bit of cash who go back to do some good.

Nobody is defending the bottle thrower.

Liverpool have a large Irish community which is a country that was treated very badly by England in the past, so large sections of the red side of the city do consider themselves to be Scouse.
But then, you know all this.
As an aside to your post regarding the Irish community, I was always lead to believe that historically Everton were the Catholic club and Liverpool were Protestant. Completely irrelevant in this day and age I suppose unless you’re a Rangers or Celtic fan.

It's somewhat ironic that in reply to a post that attempted some mind numbing pedantry I'm going to have to point out that you can only 'go back' to a place that you left and no longer live in.

I'll check with my pal Bob, what he thinks about this if I see him later tonight. If he finds your comment offensive then I'll rest my case, on the grounds that, by your own logic, any scouser is the same as any other scouser, with a common view on everything, so one view will clinch it. My guess is that....he won't.

But I accept that a pet peeve is what it is. And sometimes it's known as a prejudice.

When you say get out of there faster than you can say Beatles, it implies they never want to go back.

Nsc is the home of pedantry.

When I was 9 or ten I went to the King Alfred playground/mini funfair and then up towards the ground for the Brighton V Gibraltar friendly… We saw their coach and flicked the V’s. It was the first time Ivsaw the middle finger salute. Wankers….. we won 6-0

Blimey that escalated quickly (actually quite slowly for NSC). Can't we just agree that however luzzed it is a tw@t and deserves a life ban. The 'team' that the person supposedly 'supports' & who they were playing is actually quite irrelevant. Anyone who throws a glass bottle or 'solid' object is a tw@t in my opinion. Admittedly my moral radar is slightly conflicted re the pie and Zaha.

If you ever get the chance, go to a Liverpool match a couple of hours before KO and rather than visit the Arkle pub visit the fan zone. They have a large stage with big screens and entertainers on stage. The DJ really gets the crowd going, hyping them up to a frenzy. All this hours before the game and then they anounce the arrival of the coaches and encourage fans to greet both the home and away coaches.

Would that be your pal who left Liverpool for Faversham as soon as he made some cash?

Leverage that the gangsters have only chosen to use on the one occasion?
Unlikely in a city run by white taxi drivers and drug gangs, where 9 year old girls are regarded as collateral damage.

On the surface it’s a cracking city with great pubs and clubs, old school football grounds and a proper working class sense of humour. But it has problems beyond luzzing a bottle at a coach, which is why the successful ones leave.

It's not somewhere I have spent a huge amount of time but I wonder if the situation you describe is any worse in Liverpool than other cities.

The surface and underbelly contrast can be said of most cities around the world, should one choose to focus on it.

Quite, if the same shit was spouted about religious or ethnic minorities this thread would have been in the pit pretty quickly.

Scousers fair game apparently though.

In how many other cities are 9 year old girls shot by drug dealers chasing each other?

Would the BBC have made a celebrity of Curtis Warren if he’d been a petty thief from Watford?

Ever wondered why the cab drivers in Liverpool are white, while they’re mostly foreign elsewhere (including Amsterdam)?

I am unsure what you are offering this as proof of?

That Liverpool has a gangland presence and seedy dangerous underbelly?

Or that Liverpool's underbelly is worse that other cities?
