What about…

Chelsea have looked at their finances in the light of a 5-year amortisation limit and have realised they’ve f***ed up. Make noise about another marquee signing to keep the ‘troops’ onside with no intention of following through (apart from in their pants when they’re 16th after 10 games).

Why doesn’t Fab or Jacobs report on that. Might as well, they make everything else up.

Maybe.

But look at the games in the US to date:

Albion v Chelsea - essentially a Chelsea home game.
Albion v Brentford - played in front of two men and a dog, before the stadium filled up to watch Chelsea play.

We can have great fun pointing and laughing as they stumble from one mess to another (Exhibit Z: their lack of shirt sponsor), but for a young man from a very humble Ecuadorian upbringing, playing for Chelsea will be seen as a massive, massive thing.
.........but for a young man from a very humble Ecuadorian upbringing, playing in the PL and the Europa League for Brighton is seen as a massive, massive thing, shirley?

A whip round you say...That sounds like a job for Astrid Wett!!! She wants Moises there so badly...get your buckets out for Lad Astrid!!!
You've put a lot of mental images into my mind that I don't want there now. Involving that Wett woman and Bucket Hats.

No noises but actions! They are trying to drive down weekly £3-400k outgoings on single players. They want younger/hungrier and cheaper top talent on elongated contracts.
You keep saying this but I’ve seen no suggestion it’s the case? No young footballer is going to sign an 8 year contract on 150k a week if someone else is offering 4 years 250k a week - they’ll obviously be confident of moving onto another brilliantly paid contract in 4 years time.

why wouldn't he want more though? Perhaps he has heard the hype from everyone ( me included) and thought I'm ready for a big club. Chelsea is a bad choice but at this stage its all thats on offer. Perhaps he see's it a stepping stone to Real Madrid?

Playing in a European competition is a potential stepping stone too.

Maybe the agreement/deal/concessions/promises/clauses (not that there were any of these, of course!) involved not standing in his way if a CL club came in for him, or not standing in his way in July 2024.

I accept that the Chavs don't want to pay £100m for him but in the scheme of things is another £20m going to make much difference to them?

Bit like me quibbling about the price of a tube of Pringles.
Yeah and they're only buying him once, the number of tubes of Pringles I imagine you go through though.... ;)

We won't stand in his way if our valuation is met, be it be circa£100m or Colwill + Cash IMO. As simple as that. Might be wrong but I really can't see that any agreement would include a discount on the asking price if the suitors had qualified for the CL
