[Football] An open letter from Graham Potter

Yes, it is a nice letter, and it needed to be written given the circumstances of his departure.

I believe his words but what he doesn't understand is two things:

1. The love for Bruno at the Albion and the possibility (now busted) he might one day mange the Albion, and
2. The extent most Brighton fans hate Chelsea, a pretentious club supported by wankers. We all know people locally who should support the Albion but root for Chelsea, and as a breed they are generally tossers.

Going to go cynical again here, there is no way Chelsea would have sacked Tuchel without having his replacement lined up. They did not know the Queen was going to die and put football on hold at the time.

No fecking way….Potter IS lying to us and I really hope Bloom comes out with what really happened in the fullness of time.
How many times ....

Nearly every club will speak to reps of a manager to sound them out before they join. We did it when potter was at Swansea. Hence why a fair few people in the game knew potter was on his way to Brighton before hughton was even fired .

Not saying he was tapped up, I’m sure TB was in the loop. It’s the suggestion in his platitude to Albion fans that he didn’t know it would happen at the time of the Leicester game I don’t believe.

How are the Chelsea fans taking to you?

I think he had no clue during the Leicester game. And despite what Boehly says, I don't think he had decided on sacking Tuchel by that time either. Because if he did know he was going to sack Tuchel, he would have just sacked him youknow. What would Boehly gain from waiting?

So he did know when we played Leicester that he was likely on his way, that is all I am suggesting.

Exactly. There was no way when on the morning Potter got the call he didn't know what was on offer. Bloom would have been fully aware as well. The only surprise was Bruno and Roberts.

Cant be bothered to read anything Potters says or what is written about him now. For me he is just another manager at another club. He is not Brighton

I’ve always wanted Chelsea to lose every game. Nothing will change now.

What do people expect from him ' I want to stay in the Brighton job for the rest of my life, even if Real, Barca. Man U etc come calling'

He knows any club will sack him if results are not good enough anyway.

He may have known he was on his way, but not the timing. For all we know the expected timeframe might have been in the World Cup break and it was all brought forward

Anyway, I see little point in trying to read between any lines here and guess truthfulness or otherwise.

My guess is that as soon as Chelsea informed our club that they’d be meeting the buy-out clauses, there was nothing the club could do. Nothing at all.

I think Potter and his agent drew up a ‘wish-list’ including the staff he wanted to bring along (having checked with them first of course) and the salary he’d be looking for plus a guarantee that he’d be given time.

I strongly suggest that the Todd agreed to all of his demands pretty much from the off.

From then, it’s in the interest of everyone to get it done as quickly as possible.

Exactly this. I guess that Todd has been admiring the Brighton way since the end of last season and had probably been studying how things were set up here. Bit of a bust-up with Tuchel, things came to a head, and he made his move. Todd said, you can have whatever you want, GP saw a chance to make a potential title-winning club in his own image, and they all jumped. Not really any reason for it to take more than a few hours if everyone's getting what they want (apart from the Albion).

To be fair, he or his agent may well have been sounded out some time ago and possibly not just by Chelsea, just the same as we will have been sounding out potential successors. As PB stated, we are constantly keeping tabs on up and coming managers. What Potter might not have know was when. Perfectly plausible.

It's still disappointing but that's the way it is.
