Yet another game without a goal for Barnes...

I wouldnt bet against Barnes leaving in January to a top Div 1 side.

Why would he go to a League 1 side when plenty of decent Champ sides would jump at the chance to take him?

Sometimes I wonder where all the pro Barnes ppl actually come from, in all the time I've been going to matches I've not found anyone who thinks he's up to the job, proberbly coz he ain't

It's because you only talk to people who are as thick as you. Stop hanging around with the rest of the apes, broaden your horizons and someone might be kind enough to educate you.........

Beacuse:

(a) I dont think there will be a queue of championship clubs vying for his service
(b) He is proven at League 1 as a prolific goalscorer but not in the championship.
(c) Would be an ideal replacement for an ageing Kevin Lisbie

Over 70 away grounds visited..how many you chalked up??? .I just dont think people are above criticism becausr they pull on the stripes.

Err...........117 away grounds visited with the Albion.

I agree with you entirely that no player should be above criticism. If Barnes is poor then I say so, if he is petulant then tell him to stop moaning, if he plays well then give him praise, it's the last thing you are unable to do.

I know it's not a queue but Burnley wanted him.

That was only a rumour and no definite bid made apparently.

Ive said many times I think that OG will change a few players around at Christmas with 3 or 4 going having given them 4 months to show their worth, and I think that list COULD be headed by Barnes and Buckley

I believe there are quite a few proven Championship managers that have an opposing view to Triggers - astonishing isn't it ?

I can see us selling Barnes if he hasn't agreed a deal by Jan - assuming we sign Lita - but I think Buckley is starting to understand how Oscar wants him and Bruno to play. He had a good game against Watford and nearly setup 3 goals.

Ashley Barnes is not a natural striker and his game is massively ' confidence based ' Hence he can't play his way back into form. He is totally reliant on a successful framework around him..decent players performing near the top of their game and creating chances, that he doesn't have time to think about. In two recent home games, he has been on the end of a well-worked free-kick routine. Pulling away to the edge of the box, he put his header nearer the corner flag and on the second occasion, he scuffed his shot painfully. Ashley hasn't got the composure when time is on his side. Efforts are snatched or scuffed. He is seen at his best, when there is no time to think. A quick ball in and a first time finish. That may sound contradictory but its not. A natural finisher keeps calm when he has a few seconds of time. They seem to slow down and retain their calmness and composure. Jordan Rhodes never looks quick or hurried in the box but the ball ends up in the back of the net.
CMS is similar in nature to AB. Not a natural finisher, not that calm and composed with time on his side. The lone striker role is a specialist position. Firstly, you have to be a good header of the ball, as you will always be up against a big centre-back. You have to be very strong and be able to play with your back to goal and have excellent first touch. Ashley has none of these, so is always going to struggle in that role.
He does work hard but lacks that little bit of class to lift him above the pack. I don't think we will see any confidence return until our bigger and better players come back and take the pressure off him.

You don't really know that to be true though. People were saying that lower end Championship clubs would be lining up to sign Gary Dicker. Look where he is now.

But Championship sides hadn't put in bids for Dicker in the previous window. They hadn't seen other clubs put in bids for Dicker and so approach the club to check on his availability as they have with Barnes.

Please can someone put a simple little table together of our strikers [Ulloa, Barnes & Lita]:
Name / minutes played / goals scored

This will help us all to recognise each player's rate of scoring and perhaps explain the numbers of drawn games we have, esp the nil-nils.

For this season only:

Strikers 13.11.03.jpg

Shooting stats from ESPNSoccernet (I believe they use the AP as their source) and usually a goal isn't included as a shot (i.e. yesterday lita and JFC scored, but had no shots and none on target).
