Does my memory fail me or was Ayari pencilled in for a loan at the beginning of the season, and with the signings of Weiffer and O’Riley joining Baleba, Hinshelwood and Milner (remember him?) it seemed as though game time would be limited. 4 of those 5 have had lengthy injury lay offs and Hinshelwood has had to spend too much time covering right back.
Ayari wasn’t supposed to be part of the picture this season, I think all things considered he’s doing a solid job.

Where are we with Yasin?

His game seems to be coming on right? He was magnificent going forward for the first half at the weekend and decent in the second.

His goal will have boosted his confidence after a pretty ordinary season of finishing.

His defensive work though? I thought he left Bowen to run in behind for their first and lost Soucek for the second. Yeh, there are other things that went on for both goals, and yeh, getting done by Bowen on the floor and Soucek in the air isn't shameful. But I would contend there is work to do on the defensive side, in particular tracking runners and staying goal side.

Anyway I don't want to be overcritical as he's had a terrific year.

But does he keep his place once Baleba resumes in midfield, and we have a specialist full backs on both sides? I'd suggest maybe not as a starter

In that midfield two, Baleba is clearly first choice. However, alongside him it's one of Ayari, Hinsh, Wieffer or Gomez. Considering his poor loan spells last season, he's had a remarkable season. He presses well, is decent on the ball, and that goal might just kick him on another notch.
I reckon there might be some horses for courses selection in midfield.

For games where it's going to be a congested battle, Wieffer gets the nod, for counter attack teams where there are spaces for him to move into Ayari looks the best bet. But on average I would say that Hinsh is currently just about above Yasin and is more likely to start

I think he's the very definition of ok. Goal was excellent of course, but he seems lost defensively a lot of the time and I can't remember him doing much attacking wise the rest of the game. As back up to Baleba, Hinshelwood and Gomez and possibly Wieffer he'd be fine

He's going great. Fab clearly likes him because he has amazing stamina, his energy in the last 20 minutes is astounding. Still young and developing - he could become amazing. Mac Allister at the same age was just making his Brighton debut, 9 appearances in his first season at the same age.

I think we've always seen something in him - RDZ gave him his premier league debut as a starter in the very last game of the 22-23 season with European football already secured - don't think he would have done that if he hadn't recognised his promise

I actually agree with that. Hinsh offers a slightly better goal threat in the box. It's close though

Definitely a work in progress. I'll forgive him the second goal as a great ball in. However, clearly at fault on two accounts for the first. Fails to track Bowen's run and when the cross comes in he does rather wave a lazy foot at it in an attempt to block it.

I agree with this, except to say that there are situations where Hinsh is required as cover elsewhere on the pitch, and he's not so much better in midfield than Ayari that Ayari wouldn't slot into midfield where Hinsh plays as cover.

While true, I think Wieffer is a better right-back than Hinsh so suspect we'll see more of Hinsh in midfield.

That's very much my feeling. He might not be brilliant for 90 mins but at his age I do think he shows so much promise (in the Premier League!) that hopefully he can only get better. He has adjusted to top flight football better than I thought he would.

Am hoping the goal removes whatever mental block has stopped Ayari scoring before in this season. I like to think he’ll get another before the season’s out.

I really like him. I have noted a tendency to fade toward the end of matches that he’s started, but either on as a sub or starting and replaced at 60 minutes he’s a great option to have.

He wasn't alone in being at fault for the first goal.
Hinsh/Weiffer/Dunk/Verbruggen were all pretty awful in dealing with the situation.

A contender for worst goal conceded this season.
