Why is a U-turn seen to be some sort of failure of Government? As if every decision they make is perfect and does not need to change? A bit like the Popes infallibility? I’m guessing this comes from Thatcher saying the lady is not for turning because, of course, she was always right. Or so they would have us believe.

It was a mistake and has now been corrected so obviously they have to be vilified. I give up.
Sadly the U-bend lady caused many long-lasting adverse effects.
In the workplace, if your motto were "I will never change my mind or admit when I make a mistake",
you wouldn't pass probation.

Sadly we have brainwashed ourselves into demanding politicians be infallible, and right first time.
If not, we have to burn them immediately.
(Unless they are Johnson of course. In which case 'must' and 'should' have very different meanings.
And you can f*** up (and f***) anything and it's all a jolly laugh).

I do pity those who think labour will 'never' 'turn things around'.
One fears that for some, turning things around means deporting the brown people,
reducing all tax and increasing spending on the NHS,
and giving every white child a shiny apple as the skip to knife-free school.
And banning woke.

If that is 'round' then this laddie is not for turning ???

Almost by definition every opposition is weak - because they lost the previous election.
You can blame weak labour for Johnson winning (this is partly true),
But then labour got stronger and won.
Or was did they win because the tories got weak and lost?
If so we have weak government and weak opposition.
Or maybe it is simply the same as it ever was:
People tire of the incumbents eventually and vote for the other lot.

The only strong opposition I remember was Mr Tony, and before that Mrs T.
And both 'changed' when in power. And changing won them both 3 elections.
And half the old buffers like me left alive still hate Thatcher while the rest still hate Blair.

I don't think you have just discovered anything insightful.

Also, by the look of it, we now have a massively strong opposition.
Reform. People love them, apparently

I agree with you, if the decision is changed on your own terms and admitted (owned), not because you’re running scared of the opposition.

It makes a bad situation worse.

So far, Labour is to political governance, what Frank Spencer was to DIY.

Someone give Statmer a Beret….

I think it is about the right average income but 70 plus percent of people earn less than the average. And most of those will likely be paying a rent or mortgage

Hence why I don't think a pensioner earning higher than 70% of the working population and owning a property should get a couple of hundred quid in heating subsidies. 35k income is a couple of grand a month plus. If you haven't got to pay 100s or thousands in mortgage or rent that's plenty without being subsidised by younger tax payers trying to make ends meet
Younger tax payers don’t subsidise anyone. Tax doesn’t pay for government spending.

Interesting fact on electrical usage. I’ve just upgraded my PC and the guy who installed it said that if is left on standby 24/7 the power drain is 300 watts x 24hrs =7.2kwh x £0.28 = £2 per day or £60 pm which equates to £720 per year. I have shed loads of stuff on standby which will now be turned off.

Blimey I only average 8kw/h per day for my whole house. Most laptops consume only 15-20 watts...

your computer use more like 300mW (thousandth) on standby, if that. 300W would be running fairly hard near 100% all the time. typical usage would be 50-100W.

and that power would be emitted into the room, heating it marginally, reducing need for heating a little (ran bitcoin miner for 6mths, kept the garage several degrees warmer than normal)

The WFA can be recouped in the October budget by raising Capital Gains Tax again , Reeves should also be looking at an Agricultural Land Tax as farmers are raking in a fortune selling land off to energy companies who want to build solar array farms.

Well, yeah, I get your drift. I’m trying to cut back on work so thought it might be something to occupy my time. He recommended a couple of games which I’m trying, but am struggling even in training mode.
I recommend a good book

The figures I quoted were given to me by a computer nerd, personally I haven’t a clue.
