Well it was. It was in Hampshire and a neighbour. Now it's in Dorset.

In the early 70's Bournemouth was one of the BIG games of the season. Both home and away. "SuperMac - SuperQueer - How many bums have you had this year".
Ah those were the days! As you say long before 'modern' rivalries like Palace Bournemouth was the big game, and Fulham as well on the occasions we were in the same division. So, yes, they are/were 'local rivals'.

Hendo having a hissy fit and slapping in a transfer request is hardly the fault of Wilkins. Most players take it on the chin and battle for their place back, but if Hendo is giong to be a big girls BLOUSE over it, thats his lookout and not Deano's fault.

I bet you were not saying that when Kuipers stormed off last season and demanded a transfer. No doubt that was all McGhee's fault.

The fans got rid of McGhee and are now responsible for Henderson's transfer request. The abuse he has got from sections at Withdean is a disgrace. Footballers are bound to get some abuse but from their own fans it is ridiculous. Despite backing Henderson I will support Kuipers while he is in goal for Brighton. I just wish that the pro Kuipers crowd were like that towards Henderon.

My main worry is who will be next? Will the Withdean crowd try to get rid of other young players in future? Why don't we just let the fans pick the team with a pre match vote?

I'm not having a pop at Wilkins: I'm just saying it as I saw it. I'm prepared to give him time - Christ, I wasn't even one of the ones on McGhee's back - I support every manager to the hilt. But IMO - when I might have expected some sort of tactical change and improvement - it wasn't there. Hopefully it will come. And it will have to be a tactical change because we're not getting any more players.

I like the call for "total football", and the suggestion that our backs are "long ball hoofers".

What division are we in? We don't have Championship players (otherwise we would be in the Championship!), we have to have players that we can hang on to - therefore, attractive Mickey Adams-esque football may be a little down the line!

But for long periods of the game last night, that description of what they were doing is totally and utterly unfair, IMHO.

Look, Dick has already stated that we're a 'Community Club' - so just call out the names 15 mins before kickoff and decide by who gets the loudest cheers (or the softest boos). That will not only ensure that fans are encouraged to arrive early but also take the team selection headache away from Wilkins.

Seriously though I was being Ironic as Wilkins is doing exactly the same things McGhee did and was flamed for. Just still feel aggrieved that we ousted a manager that would have got us into the plays offs at least come the end of the season and my Mark McGhee poster above my bed is tear stained

I think Wilkins just needs a bit of time to get his ideas across to the players & we will see a steady improvement under him. The thing I noticed at Millwall was the togetherness of the players and they really looked like they want to play for Wilkins. Maybe not hendo but thats his problem.

I thought we mixed up quite well actually. When they were 10 men we played it out and across the back line, keepinghtem moving, but there were times when they hit it long. But not aimless long. Take the pass from Kerry in the second half. That was not the problem last night.

I hope so - I loved him as a player and will of course support him as the manager, as I do all our managers. I appreciate he's come in at a really busy time - 2 games a week - with no real time between games to change things - but he does need to make his mark, transferring some of his tactical know how to the youngsters and not being afraid to persuade the older players to think and play a different game.

I'm not sure what planet some people are on - worst football for 30 years ?

Reasonable passing from the back most of the game. Players seemed engergized and to have some spirit. A keeper shouting commands to his defenders.

Most of all I actually got excited - for the first time in a long time I actually believed we could score, come from behind AND win. OK not everythings perfect but they've only had two days on the training ground since MM left.

Bring on Saturday 'cause I can't wait and I think the O's could get a stuffing with our team spirit having returned.

Am I joking ?, sort of.

I am 100% behind Wilkins as we have no choice and he is and always will be an Albion legend but I would have definately kept McGhee is charge for the season and ultimately I think McGhee is an excellent manager especially in this division and would have done better than Wilkins. I don't think Wendy has the contacts or nous at the moment its too early for him, I can see another Wood and Hinshelwood scenario.

I am a 110% Dick Knight fan and agree all the time with him but I think he got this one wrong albeit due to pressure from unreasonable Albion fans. Time will tell.

That sort of Irony is not likely to be constructive in our current situation as is evident by some of the nonsense written on here.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing than something. We should all be trying to pull together and let things settle down for a while rather than look to stir up a hornets nest - even though that may not have been the intention.

I'm not sure Deano is even `in` yet to get out: but based on last night, I think we should keep searching for a manager. That first half was among the worst football I've seen in 30+ years of watching them. No inspirational tactics, too many long balls, little movement, nothing new at all. Better after the break but still the old problems remain and a lack of real football - last seen under Mickey Adams. How the hell I'm going to persuade my young lad that his future lies in supporting this club when they play like that is beyond me. Sorry, I'm a die-for-the-club supporter - but last night was dreadful.

Chirst almighty!

How many training sessions has Wilko had with the team on his own since McGhee left? Two, maybe three at the most. Things don't change over night. Give him a bit of time will you. :nono:

Not at all - Kuipers was also out of order for his outburst, and his reaction to being dropped WAS totally unprofessional. However, as I've said elsewhere, McGhee's completely inflexible "say sorry to me or f*** off" stance made the situation worse, and led to a long stand-off between the pair which proved detrimental to the team. McGhee and Kuipers should both have been big enough to sort out their differences sooner. I don't put the blame for that squarely on either of them - in my opinion, they were BOTH at fault. McGhee in his man-management, and Kuipers with his reaction and attitude.
