Obviously Messi, by MILES. Equally as good, but without all the fuckedupness.

I'd go for the bloke who won Napoli the title and his country the world cup all by himself.

Tsk. Anyone with the right funds can (quite literally) BUY the Italian title, and he won the World Cup with various forms of outside assistance, from solid team-mates, to blind or corrupt officials...

I'd choose the bloke who 5 years before even reaching his prime, is notching FIFTY goals a season, and has made his team the best club side seen anywhere in the world in my lifetime.

Maradona had more in his locker than dribbling round everyone. He could pass like Zidane and chip goals from 20 yards (there's a compilation somewhere). I dread to think what Diego could do with this new ball. Messi is the best in the world by far but he's no Diego Maradona, the best player ever.

Some of his passing while being kicked up into the air.

Indeed he isn't - he doesn't do coke, or shoot reporters, for starters.

I don't need a video to remind me how good Maradona was, but ALL things considered, I'd FAR rather have Messi.

I see. So Maradona won the world cup with "solid" team mates, whereas Messi has made Barcelona the best club side in the world despite meagre assitance from crap like Xavi, Iniesta, Carles "Jason Dodd" Puyol and David "DJ Campbell" Villa.

Nah, Diego all the way. He had the balance of a gymnast, the trickery of a magician and the craziness of a madman. In his pomp he was the best ever and still is.

No-one is denying what a GREAT player Maradona was. He was incredible. He was also massively f***ed up, and from what I can remember (we didn't get blanket coverage of world football in those days) was not consistently effective like Messi is now. He was as likely to fail to show up, or get himself sent off after ten minutes as he was to skip through a defence and score a hat-trick.

I'm not having this 'single-handedly won the World Cup' thing, either. Danila Passarella and Burruchaga were in that team, for starters.

If Messi can win the world cup then i would choose him. But for now Diego as he had the ability to be a one man team. Messi not so much

Watching Barca last night reminded me of the way we played at Peterborough.

Messi or Cruyff.
The latter a football genius from 1964 to 1984, and revolutionised Barca as a player and later as manager.

Maradona '86. Inspired Argentina as a team and to World Cup Victory. Something Messi is yet to do, but he's still young.
Shame about the Hand of God but other goal was fantastic.
