Messi is obviously GREAT, but is he THAT great?

I'm yet to really see him turn it on in an International tournament (and of course, I fully appreciate time is in his hands), but unless his International team improves, I'm not sure he will.

Yes, he scores a SHIT load of goals, and gets a SHIT load of assists, but, if you took a Wayne Rooney, or a Fernando Torres, and put them in that Barcelona team, in that Spanish league, would they struggle to get near the amount he does? I'm not sure they would.

Look at Ronaldo, he has scored 55 goals, in 59 games in TWO seasons in Spain.
Messi has scored 119 goals, in 175 games, in SEVEN seasons.
Ronaldo has almost half of Messi's goals in almost a third of the time.

I am in the camp of Messi is a great player, playing for (possibly) the best team ever, in a pretty poor league.

If he moved to Manchester United, Chelsea, or Arsenal at the end of the season, I think it would be a number of years until he was crowned the Worlds best player again.

Having said all that, he does have PLENTY of time ahead of him.

Messi or Maradona? I'll sleep on it

Do make me laugh:)
Pele was awsome in his day but nothing that special to be honest, maradona on the other hand had bloody everything and one day messi could be the next maradona:)

No player has ever come near maradona in recent times, maradona was playing with skills in the 80's that clearly shouldn't have been seen til recent years.Bloody genius:bowdown:

Messi has never yet proven himself in a major European or World Cup final and therefore cannot be compared to the greats like Maradona, Pele or even Van Basten.

Messi truly is a naturally gifted talent one of the best footballers in the hame today but has to go some way to be compared to those I've mentioned.

I remember everyone was saying the same about Ronaldinho(who I never rated as much as the media did) and yet he bottled the big games. It remains to be seen whether Messi will be as disappointing.

In my lifetime I have never seen a more gifted player than Maradona, he was brilliant beyond belief.

Maradona was undoubtedly the best player the game has ever seen. I honestly don't think we'll ever see such a dominant player ever again.

As a player, surely Maradona? Undoubtedly controversial but I've always seen Messi as a bit of a one trick pony, Maradona had it all.
