Dont worry, they mean f*** all anyway trust me.

Totally agree, A levels have been given away like sweeties over the years and are now fully devalued.
Thats why our top Universities are making school leavers take additional exams so they can sort the wheat from the chaff.

Saw some female student interviewed on TV saying that exams are certainly no easier than they used to be - how the f*** does she know. Did she also sit exams 20 years ago?

To go to the uni of your choice. You'll have no problem getting into uni regardless of your grades.

I sat A-levels in 95 and then took an AS in 02 and they'd got noticably easier over those 7 years so god knows how much easier they were 20 years ago.

It's not necessarily the ease of topics because you can't make things like maths easier but they seem to present them in modules now so that you get multiple short exams so you have to revise less (ie. maths had 3 short exams for 1 years work) whereas you used to have to revise the whole 2 years for 1 long exam.

2 reasons
1. The pass rate stats show more and more people getting higher grades every year. I suppose you're going to tell me the population is getting more intelligent.
2. I was in a position of recruiting new graduates who entered university with fabulous A levels. The vast majority were totally unsuitable. Thats why many firms are insisting on 1st Class honours or PhDs. The rest are dross.

Every bloody summer i am just soooo bored of the A Level debate!:censored:

For the umpteenth year the A-Level pass rate has gone up, what a surprise!

Instead of just debating about it every summer when are they actually going to address restoring its credibility or better still creating a new qualification that has real value.

I took 2 A' Levels (English & Ecomomics) way back in 1982 and the simple format was just four 3 hour exams to cover a whole two years work. Your grade was based wholly on the results of these exams. There was no evaluation of coursework counying towards the grade,It was shit or bust time and if you fecked it up on the day it was tough titty.

I should establish that i don't necessarily think that the 'exam or bust' approach was the correct approach but it does feck me off how any spotty herbert can now jump up and down about his multiple A grades. Another factor is that today there are also such a variety of subjects including vague 'bollocks' subjects like media studies etc. In my day the subjects were pretty dry and were for 'exactly what it say on the tin'. Half the qualifications today you need to ask "what the bloody hell is that about?". In my day test of genius was an A level; A grade at Physics.

Rant over!

Fair enough. I must admit that my a-levels were pretty easy when i took them(98). apart from maths, but then i guess there's no way of making maths easy!
