Totally agree, A levels have been given away like sweeties over the years and are now fully devalued.
Thats why our top Universities are making school leavers take additional exams so they can sort the wheat from the chaff.

Saw some female student interviewed on TV saying that exams are certainly no easier than they used to be - how the f*** does she know. Did she also sit exams 20 years ago?

to be fair we didnt take them 20 years ago, but we still have to cope with pressure. we didnt know how hard they were and frankly i dont give a flyer. i can guarantee you that you would still find german and french hard!!! knowing abortion rights in german and being able to talk about it with suprise questions certainly isnt an easy feat!!!!

Certainly the students of today still work bloody hard for it.

I agree, they might or might not be easier but thing with AS and A level you have just as much pressure in both years of getting really good results compared to the old system of where you didn't have so much pressure in the first year. I'd much prefer it to be like it was.

yeah i hate it, i wish there was no exams in the first year, it just brings another year of pressure. definitely would prefer a year off after gcse's

I know the youngsters of today work just as hard to get good results and they have my heartfelt respect.

There will be plenty running round crowing that they have shed loads of A levels and in a way I feel a little sorry for them.
Exam results give them and their parents the impression that they are the new generation of super brains.

In reality todays generation is just about as bright as it was say 20 years ago, but today many are given a false impression of their own abilities.
The shock will come when they have done their degree (don't get me started on that one) and get offered a job that used to be done by A level leavers years ago.

i found french AS impossible- although i did turn up to only 76% of the lessons:dunce:

i found french impossible too, and i turned up to the lessons!! i answered the writing question wrong - the one where you had to write about your french family's pictures that you would put in the magazine or whatever it was. i answered it as if it was my family's photos!!!

i really hope they dont downmark me too much, cause i think i did well 4 the rest of the papers

Students are certainly working harder than 20 years ago, as employment demands have changed significantly over that time.

I am on clearing duty tomorrow morning, so if anyone is unfortunate enough to not get their grades but fancies doing Industrial Needlework and Landscape Gardening at MMU with only a cycling proficiency test just has to say the magic words "NSC" to me to get a place.

There we go then.

Pass rates up for the 23rd successive year.
96.5% of students passed.

What were you all worrying about? I told you they gave them away like sweeties.
