Without any shadow of a doubt, Frankie Howard who played left wing in the fifties, was the fastest played ever to play for the Albion. He would push the ball 30 yards past the full back and leave him for dead. Anyone who saw him play would, I'm sure, agree with me.

I don't remember ever seeing Frankie Howard play but my dad used to say he was very quick.
The technique you describe does remind me of Dave Armstrong (again) except that he used to kick the ball past the full back and straight out of play for a throw-in or goal kick. Normally used to run after it though, and very quickly.
