Dave Armstrong was quick but rarely managed to retain control of the ball whilst running.

Has to be him. I've never seen any of our players move so fast. But as Alex points out, completely useless with the ball.

Without any shadow of a doubt, Frankie Howard who played left wing in the fifties, was the fastest played ever to play for the Albion. He would push the ball 30 yards past the full back and leave him for dead. Anyone who saw him play would, I'm sure, agree with me. He went on to become the groundsman at the Goldstone and became another statistic when he was shafted by Archer who sacked him.

He was also excellent in "Up Pompeii".

Steve Claridge deserves a mention for his lack of speed.

Dirk Lehman had the quickest moving legs but never seemed to get anywhere so gets my voted as quickest AND slowest

Yeah, the problem was they didn't both move in the same direction, it was like he had no control over them!

I would say the quickest I have seen was Dean Saunders and the slowest possibly Ian Chapman even as a youngster but more so as he got fatter. Wardy was very quick over a short distance, about 10 yds, like Gary Lineker
