Swindon Playoffs - Home - My fault, but a surge in extra fans meant I missed out on tickets.

Playoff Final - Had planned to purchase the morning of my flight, but got stuck in the queue and had to depart. Offered a ticket on my return but was moving house and broke down on the way to Devon with a car load of stuff - got to Exeter too late to shoot up to Bristol.

Last game at Goldstone - cricket called off in the end. Had given my ticket away. Priced out by touts. Watched it from above the East Terrace.

1983 Semi final, got married that day .

Was planned way in advance before the 3rd round as we did not have a game that day.

We weren’t’ expected to have a run in the cup were we.

Being a family of football lovers I was not popular.

'83 Cup Final. I was too young to go on my own and my dad was laid out with his back. Bad days. Although watching him leap to his feet when Gary Stevens scored made me wonder a little.

Went to both, but the one I regret not going to was the famous midweek win at Selhurst the year after the 5-0 debacle..........

0-1 at Palace under McGhee. Absolutely gutted to miss that as I was abroad. Listened on the radio, it even had the comedy last minute equaliser that wasn't didn't it?

Brighton v Wolverhampton Wanderers in round three of the League Cup in 1969-70 season due to a school prize giving at the old Hove County Grammar School (now Blatchington Mill). Lost 2-3

We could hear the cheers whilst going through this boring ceremony, I believe there was a 30,000+ crowd there that night. At the end of the prize-giving virtually the whole school tore out of the doors and raced across the playing fields, going out of the entrance to Neville Avenue. Got into the north stand for the last 10-15 minutes and at least caught a sight of the great Derek Dougan.

Left it far too late applying but the club wrote back to apologise that they'd sold out. Very decent of them considering how busy they must've been leading up to the game so I've always liked them as a club for that. I probably didn't deserve to go though.

I have missed so many big games due to my work over the years.
83 Cup Final, & replay, (I was at the semi though). Both play off finals, Wembley & Cardiff. Hereford. Villa last year.
But worst of all, back to work Jan 18th & not home till May 18th; therefore missing the 2nd half of what promises to me one of the most memorable seasons ever, bugger!
However, I will be home for the opening of Falmer; just need to get a ticket!

I am embarrassed to admit I didn't go and see that goal, purely because I couldn't face the remote possibility of a repeat of the previous game at the Theatre of Shite.
What a shocking lack of backbone. Never forgiven myself for that.

Wembley 91 and Hereford 97, I was to young to go by myself and didnt get taken to Wembley and dad couldnt face going to Hereford. Oh and was it Chester who we smashed 7-1 or something? That would have been awesome.

83 Cup Final - was a bit young - remember seeing my old man leave early in the morning getting picked up by friends with their car draped in scarves and flags - absolutely gutted that wasn't going and was hoping that my dad would turn around at some point and say we got a spare ticket and you're coming too - that obviously didn't happen and think starting bawling.
Palace away March 89, the game with the 5 penalties - think it was midday kick-off - was supposed to meet a mate at the station - but woke up late and in the days before mobiles couldn't get in touch with him to say wait around for me for another 30mins - being 14 at the time didn't want to go on my todd so gave up in the end.
Last game at the Goldstone - haven't the foggiest idea why I missed this - maybe on holiday - but this will always piss me off missing out on being at my favourite place in the whole wide world to witness the last game.

I was in the 5th form at the time and a number of us skipped the prize giving entirely, including some of the staff (John Warwick); I can't remember how long the inevitable detention was.
Wasn't the chairman of the School Governers an Alderman Benson who used to "headline" this event every year? Christ - fancy recalling that after 40 years!
A great night at the Goldstone, I also remember Dougan, and Terry Hibbett but it was Hugh Curran who did for us in the end.

With your avatar I guessed you might be from same era as me. I remember him (Alex Dawson) shoulder-charging the goalkeeper with ball into the net. Great stuff.

Glad you had the bottle to miss the school event, I guessed I should toe the line as I was now a 'responsible' lower sixth. Can't remember if Benson was a governor but hadn't realised even members of staff skipped the prize-giving.
