But it's not just about club form. Some players thrive in a particular system of play. Perhaps Bent is scoring so many goals for Sunderland because he is their big fish and they build the team around him.

Will England be built around Bent when he won't be the big fish in the team?

Conversely, Heskey has shown a consistent ability to perform in the system England plays, which (I think) is different to Villa's.

Rooney, Crouch, Defoe and Heskey, Walcott will go as a fifth striker/ wide player if aaron lennon is fit or Joe Cole finds some form. Zamora will only go if Joe Cole or Lennon miss out as, Walcott will then be picked indefinitely as a midfielder.

yes, i think the pace of Villas game doesnt suit Heskey. they dont need to lump it to him and hold, as much of the time they use the wings. Zamora on the other hand can perform the holdup role, but also has more pace. im incresingly thinking that Zamora will go instead of Heskey. BUT he really needs at least one if not two games along side Rooney/defoe to see if they will click, and i wonder if its too late for that.

Definites:
Rooney - No brainer
Heskey - Proven to link up well with Rooney
Crouch - Goals to games ratio for England says it all
Defoe - Very quick, natural finisher, great impact sub if we need a goal in the last 20 minutes

Then if there are going to be 5, it will be 1 from Bent, Cole or BZ. Personally I'd take BZ but reckon Capello will take Cole.

Just how bad does Heskey have to get before you realise hes not up to it ?

Or how many goals and mom performances does Zamora have to put in 4 u to admit hes better than Heskey ?

I think we will take 4 of those strikers, planning to use Walcott up front as a 5th if necessary.

I agree. There's only space for 20 outfield players, and walcott provides back up as a 5th forward. I can't see Fabio dropping either Crouch or Heskey, BZ will probably have to hope for one of these 2 to get an injury.

I really like Zamora but even know he is in great form I don't think he fits into the England team.

Rooney
Defoe
Crouch
Heskey
Bent

I should go for Carlton Cole but IMO Bent is better.

I do not believe more than 4 strikers will be taken. The emphasis at present is on mid-field with 4 and often 5 there with one player up front. Rooney and Heskey will go as first choice with Crouch and Defoe as back up. Zamora has never been chosen by Capello and he is not going to risk a 29 year old striker having his first good season in the Premiership.

There are now two NSC voters who don't think Rooney should be picked.

They have an, er, interesting take on football.
