f***, **** and shit all have roots in similar Norse and German words or Old English (i.e. fukka, kunton, scitte) . acroynym origins for such words are bollocks, the practice is a very modern one, for modern things that suddenly came into existance so nothing to base words on (i.e. laser, scuba, radar)

More importantly, what's your FAVOURITE swear word?

Twat, because its pretty damn rude, yet as Cameron showed you can just about get away with using it in everyday conversation. my fave word is actually bollocks, but thats a far deeper word than mere swearing.

Aren't berk and the c bomb both descended from 'Berkhamstead Hunt'?

Berkshire Hunt is rhyming slang for ****. shortened to "berk" its so innocuous isn't it?

Don't like the C word myself, but then a lot of women don't.

What do you call yours then Edna?

Sent from my wardrobe whilst watching Susannah Reid and Sian Williams enjoy a clam sandwich.

Famously used by Robert Browning in the poem Pippa Passes because he thought a "witch's twat" was an item of clothing. "Then owls and bats
Cowls and twats
Monks and nuns in a cloister's moods
Adjourn to the oak-stump pantry"

Silly twat.

I have a favourite phrase rather than a word:

Cockjuggling thundercunt

Usually applied to any fan of Cry*tal Pal*ce

There was at one point a scholarly journal called Maledicta that specialized in just such questions.

**** is from the Grope **** Lane in London where the ladies of the night used to hang out in the olden days !! APPARENTLY !!

The c word arrives from the name of a splice in a rope
Called a c***splice. If you look at a picture of it on google you can see why.
