Thank you everybody. I suppose I must have been a gammon after Bournemouth scored their third goal in last month’s game.

Doubt it, you can't even have qualified by blaming it on a foreign scorer taking jobs away from English strikers.

Unfortunately most of the people running this country and the world these days.

Er......gammon is a poignant term that resonates when used appropriately. Using it to describe all politicians is a bit.....inappropriate. Let's not devalue a good epithet? ???

I remember sitting in the south stand at the Goldstone (r.i.p.) in the 80s, in an all white croud, when an opposition player did a foul or something. A bloke in front of me shouted 'you n*gger' at him. Bloke next to him boggled and said 'what are you going on about? He's white'. Nobody laughed. It was excruciatingly embarrassing. Whenever the term gammon is used, the first bloke is what springs to my mind. Whenever I read gammony posts on NSC, I get that same queasy embarrassed feeling. People not quite stupid enough to be deemed 'unfit to plead', capable of carefully selecting only items that fit their narrative, and sufficiently emboldened to think the world needs to hear the conclusions they have drawn. People who, if they were dogs, would have to be put down for repeatedly biting the hand that feeds them.

It refers to going red in the face.

As someone who has an incurable skin condition that can make me go red in the face at random (usually every third day) and leaves angry blotches in its wake that someone always has to remark on, making me feel even more self-conscious about it, it’s a term that I find quite “triggering”.

I remember going on Twitter the day when an Extinction Rebellion protest at a London station had ended with angry commuters dragging the demonstrators from a train roof. Someone had taken a screenshot of a man in the crowd and written “Look at his red face and blotchy skin. Typical fash!” So thanks to this expression, I now find that I'm labelled politically thanks to an Illness that I'm already quite upset about anyway.

I might be a snowflake and I’ve never been called it directly, but I wince every time I see it being used.

Have you tried a chlorine face wash?

West is BEST
you can go gammon hunting on here if you’re ever bored;

Find a thread filled with leave voters. You’ll find them on threads with subject matter including Tommy Robinson, Muslims, school sports days, the news, climate change, Brighton Pride etc.

Wait for a few of them to gather at the watering hole and for some sensible people to post, they are good bait.
They may for example, suggest the world problems are not all cause by Muslims or that Brexit has possible had a negative effect on the car industry. Ppf will be first to arrive. It’s tempting to waste a shot on him but hold back, there’s no meat on him. You want your wellquickwoodys, your Beorthelms, your Mouldy Boots. These are the ones that go apoplectic when shots are fired. They are good value. A good train journey can be filled hunting these guys.

Once you have had your fun you’ll be tempted to walk away. Stop. It’s worth hanging on for Pastafarian to arrive. It’ll usually be about an hour after the hunt is over. He’s great. He’ll go back over every post and post utter gibberish about everything. Eventually focusing on one minor detail because he’s had every of his other point annihilated. When you’re bored of him, mention the time he accidentally posted a screen grab of all his porn bookmarks. He’ll call you gullible and disappear for a week.
He signals the end of discussion.
There you go, Gammon Hunting for fun.

It's the sort of person that rather than use google, asks the question on a footabll message board, the sort of person who calls anyone to the left of Ghengis Khan a snowflake but gets outraged by the most mundabe shit imaginable, the sort of person who unironically claims to have gone to "the university of life", the sort of person who's "not racist, but", the sort of person who used to call things pc gone mad but has just discovered the word woke, the sort of person who won't have a word said against Empire, the sort of person who thinks prison is too soft, sentences are too short, the sort of person that thinks all spped limits are wrong and you should be able to park anywhere, In summary a ****.

Pretty much covers it but a true Gammon would also think Jeremy Clarkson should be running the country...oh and really doesn't like Greta Thunberg,

It's a stereotype of course but many people can recognise it in the last five years in particular. The pictures in this thread show BBC Question Time audience members. You can choose your stereotype if you watch it...personally gave up years ago.

No, but I’ll bear it in mind, thanks. The doctor has given me some cream called Daktacort which does a good job of dulling it right down, but it contains Cortisone so it might not be suitable for long term use.

Let's not forget JCFG who will arrive even later than Pastafarian and just keep blaming Jeremy Corbyn for everything.

OK Boomer

Lol. Okay Boomer.
That's another thing. Being born in 1957 I don't consider myself a 'Boomer', but for convenience I get lumped in with them. They now get WAY too much abuse. Yes ok a lot have drifted rightwards as they've got older, and the lucky ones are financially secure in their old age (so I'm definitely not one), but they were also the protest generation. Some would have cut their teeth on Aldermarston marches with their parents, and the Boomer generation as a whole protested against the Vietnam war (and war in general), and marched for Civil Rights, Women's Rights and Gay Rights. They were the first generation to start to care about the environment, had a sub-culture built on tolerance, love, peace and understanding and rebelled against the Authoritarian Establishment. They laid the social groundwork for where we are now.

In short they achieved a lot, and if the current generation achieve half as much they'll be doing well.

These people, whilst old, are almost certainly not Gammons.

I agree with all of that. But, being a couple of year younger than you, I am a full blown boomer
