apart from the depressing inevitability of Germany qualifying this group will go down to wire - can't pick it myself although I reckon it's even harder for the Socceroos than 2006and there's no Gus Hiddink either.....
How is Essien going anybody?

that group is going to be well hard

people look at the brazil/portugal/ivory coast group as the "group of death", but then they've got cannon fodder in the form of north korea

australia, ghana and serbia are all pretty good teams

Can they still call up Hitzelsperger? I've always liked him anyway.

Ballack has always done better for Germany than for Chelsea; they'll certainly miss him a great deal. But he is such an arrogant git, in an otherwise generally friendly team set-up, that their morale might be improved by his absence.

Ballack has been poor this season and well past his best so his injury has saved the German selectors the decision of dropping him.

What a genuine shame. He is probably the unluckiest man in football. Suspended from a World Cup Final, had 2 seasons where he was in the team finishing second in EVERYTHING (Bayer Leverkusen lost both domestic cup finals, lost the Champs League final and came 2nd in the league!, and then same again at Chelsea). Poor chap, with regards to the World Cup.

The unluckiest man in football?

Captain of his country, a buldging display of medals, just won a double?

Adam Hinshelwood is unlucky.

Michael Ballack is bloody lucky.

Not really.

Yes it is. You could say Adam Hinshelwood is lucky as he played league football and was an England International, whereas some bloke who was 17 or 18 and very promising broke his leg before his career could get going.

COMPLETELY and UTTERLY relative.
