In theory it's a good idea to maximise home fans although segregating the concourses is possibly a factor. However I like the idea of empty seats in the away section and it looking sparse with the relatively few attending being widely spread out.

The less support away sides have the better for us

This does make sense from the point of view of gaining an advantage over the opposition but doesn't do much for the atmosphere inside the ground.

There were plenty of quiet teams last year that packed out the away end and it didn't impact on the atmosphere.

For segregation purposes how is it being handled in terms of the concourse?

The will be 2 empty blocks directly behind the goal at the south end. This will happen almost every time unless an away team takes up full allocation. By the way away supporters are directly behind the goal, not home.
In my view the club have f***ed the whole away fans and ticket prices for home and away.

Can't see these being empty. This space will be needed for BHA fans as the other areas WILL sell out.

Your having a laugh. Tickets for Cardiff and Barnsley are easily available and if you check the tickets website, you'll see that sales dried up after the initial day of going on sale. Those blocks directly behind the goal are for away supporters unless they give back allocation. So those blocks aren't even on sale to BHA fans yet. Cardiff and Barnsley will almost certainly give back tickets so those blocks will be available from this week. However, as I said, the sales have dried up. Most match by match from last season now has a ST, and the match tickets on general sale are too expensive to interest too many casual fans.
Trust me, you'll be looking at empty seats behind the south goal unless we play a team that takes full allocation, and then it will be away supporters not home! Gus asked for Home support behind the goal, he didn't get it.

I will more than happily link back to this post in 10 days times.

Yes, Cardiff and Barnsley will not take a single seat in the south stand, but we will. As soon as the current ones on sale are gone, then these 2 blocks will be released. Last season, tickets only went on sale 2 weeks before a home game in many cases. There will be a last minute surge. I am not saying every seat in the south will be sold, but a good number will be.

As it happens, sales appear to be better for Barnsley than Cardiff.

I hope you're right and you can say I told you so. I really do. I don't want to be looking at empty blocks. Last season, tickets sold out in a number of days. This season, people just aren't buying because most now have ST's. Its gonna be hard to attract casual supporters behind the goal at £30 notes.

2 wins on the bounce at Swindon and Hull is the only way we will shift any of the tickets sent back by Cardiff and Barnsley.

Interesting read this.

Gotta say, was a bit suprised to see the ticket prices for the away end this coming Saturday - was £24 last season and now for the side seating 9 months later it's £34. Got myself a £28 ticket so not 'too' bad.
Can't see us bringing me many down for the match, what's the lowest away attendance you've had at the AMEX so far? For the south coast/London away matches, we normally take 300 - 500 supporters and will probably take this number for Saturday - I know the official BFC club coach is struggling to be filled for this match.

Just as a side note for the BHA fans that paid £30 at Oakwell last season as Category A prices, you'll be glad to know that the Category system has been scrapped and all matches are now priced at £25 Adults, £17 Concessions & £7 Juniors!

This year your ticket price includes the use of trains, buses or the park and ride facilities. Trains are good from the centre of town and from towns upto 20 miles away. There are 3 park and rides you can use too, with the one at Mill Lane likely to be of most use to away fans.

With the cost of a return rail fare from central Brighton, the cheapest tickets are 50p less than last year. I think it's also great to offer away fans a side view. Not everyone wants to be in a corner or behind the goal.

Hope that helps to explain. I just wish our club made this clear too.

I think the lowest league attendance from away fans last was from Cardiff 758 but it was a midweek game.

Have to say that if the away tickets have gone up from £24 to £34 that is another example of extortion and is likely to see less away fans at the Amex as the novelty of a new stadium has now passed for most of the teams in the Championship.

As for Kingcole's comment about rail travel from Brighton being included, I suspect that any Barnsley fans travelling down by train would not notice the difference, if any, between a return from Barnsley to Brighton and a return from Barnsley to Falmer! Probably the only ones that will benefit are those travelling by car and lets be honest, a £10 hike in prices doesn't cover the cost of a bus from the town centre!!! Out of interest, what are the cheapest tickets you refer too, are they home or away and did you add the cost of a return fare to the price of an equivalent ticket last year cost?

In a pile of football shirts
Been at the Amex for one season and you are slagging of a man who fought tooth and nail for the club through the inquiry process and project managed the building of the place. Marvellous.

Add to that the other CJTCs on here slagging the new chief executive, makes you wonder what's happening to some of our fans.

Out of interest, what are the cheapest tickets you refer too, are they home or away and did you add the cost of a return fare to the price of an equivalent ticket last year cost?

They are both home and away at £28.00 This is the price an adult pays in south, north or the corners whether home or away.

The cost of a return from BTN to Falmer is £4.50, so in effect cheaper than last year by 50p. I do here what you say about the train fare for those coming from out of town though.

Barnsley bloke just said they won't bring more than 500, so they can all get at £28 ticket. There was a Cardiff bloke moaning that there were no £28 tickets left yesterday, but he was moaning 48 hours before kick off!

I went to Barnsley last year, and forgetting the dullest game of football I have ever seen, I paid £30 for my ticket and £15 for my lads. I did not have a padded seat, a nice pie, a choice of beer, a great view, an invitation to drink in other stands after the game or free transport anywhere within the local area.

Although my ticket was only £2 more LAST YEAR at that SHITHOLE than theirs will be THIS YEAR, my under 10 will pay £8 LESS as we do great rates for kids tickets.

And for those who think football should be about football and not the comfy stadium, why not go and support a team who within one year of promotion from league one, managed a top 10 finish in the championship, and then following that season, buy their old captain back from a premiership club, keep their 2.5m striker from going to Leeds and add another ex Valencia player to the one we already have. Oh whilst your at it, you might as well also going and support a team that has Wayne Bridge enforcing the defence.

Errrrrrrrr.

We should not be comparing football at Brighton to football at Barnsley. We should not compare what we get for our money at the Amex with what you get at Oakwell, as if we did, we all know there really isn't anything to compare.

But if you are sad enough to want to compare, then you will also notice we charge less too.

I agree that the game at Barnsley on that final cold grey grim last day of the season was a low point and £30 seemed very steep for the facilities on offer, although it is a palace compared to Fratton Park and certainly much improved since my previous visit many moons ago. Our performance was pretty dire in failing to turn over a very poor Barnsley side and true to our away form nearly conceding a late winner for the Tykes. I truly feared that would be the last time we would see Vicente, his expression throughout was 'WTF I am doing here?'.

However in Barnsley's defence the ground was actually better than I feared and I see they have splashed out on several signings (courtesy of our ticket money?) in the close season so might not be the obvious relegation candidates that most would expect., ok there is one stand that looks like a relic from the 1930's but was a quaint reminder of how footie grounds used to be. I guess they have updated Oakwell as their budget permits rather than a shit or bust approach. The rest of the ground looked ok.

Talking of ticket prices I haven't checked Ipswich yet but will interesting to see if they dare to raise theirs from £30 or £36 for facilities worse than Barnsleys.

1. Nothing has 'gone up from £24 to £34'. What they were offered before for £24 is now £28 (but includes the travel voucher, which they may or may not need). The £34 seats are an ADDITIONAL option, which they don't need to take up -most won't.

2. I'm not sure you know what 'extortion' is.

:nono:

I've read that Cardiff only requested 5% allocation, which is 1350ish, and we're meant to be close to selling out. Cardiff are meant to be bringing not far short of a thousand so there should only be around 500 unsold seats, plus a couple of thousand no-shows.
