It seemed a great idea that the away section moved to the East stand and increased the flexibility of the away area, so more seats could be made available for home supporters if required and away support was poor.
However, with possibly the worst supported team in the league being offered seats in both the ESL and the corners, there is going to be a lot of wasted space.
850 in the corner would have sufficed for Barnsley, but instead their supporters can buy ESP or the corner. These 2 areas have a combined capacity of 2000.
If away supporters are continued to be given a choice there could be a lot of empty seats. I am not suggesting home support will sell out, but if it did then it's one hell of a waste.
Surely the allocations should be like this......
Away following to be under 850 - Just the SE corner
Away following to be under 1200 - Just the ESL
Away following to be 2000 - ESL and the SE corner
Away support to be up to 3300 - ESL, SE corner & half the south
Away support to be 4500 (15% cup only) ESL, SE corner and all the south
If clubs are to be offered ESL and SE every game, then there is less flexibility than last year, as then we could offer 2600 or 1200 (split south).
This year if we pursue with this policy it will be 2100 or 3300.
AND.... Of the few Barnsley faithful who make the trip, I would guess 90% of them will choose the cheapest seats, meaning a quarter of our lovely south stand will be empty.
Hope they sort it.
