Very fustrating defeat, no f'in way did we deserve to lose that.

Positives: Andy Whing, excellent game. Tommy Elphick was again defensively sound. Jake Robinson looked lively when he came on, and Murray looked decent.

Negatives: The midfield (1st half especially) were absolute tosh. Martot was crap, Reid wasn't noticeable, Thomson was ok but like the other midfielders didn't see enough of the ball for reasons I'll explain in a sec. Cox looked our most dangerous threat but he constantly cuts inside and needs to either learn to take on his man and cross with his left, or be moved to a more natural right wing position so that he can take on his man. Hoof ball, the main reason the midfield didn't see enough of the ball. The 1st half we were constantly giving it to one of the back four (Mostly El Abd) who then preceeded to hoof it out towards the corners were either Elder and Forster would run into the space. It didn't work, it does not work.

Ratings:

Kuipers 6 - Not much to do, could do nothing about their goal.
Whing 8 - Excellent, some crucial tackles and headers, and got forward regularly.
Richards 7 - One amazing tackle, tried to keep the ball on the ground too.
Elphick 7 - Another good game.
El Abd 7 - Made a couple of mistakes, otherwise solid.
Martot 4 - Rubbish.
Cox 6 - Decent enough. But I feel he is being wasted out on the left.
Thomson 5 - Did ok but struggled to get into game.
Reid 4 - See Martot.
Elder 5 - Not at all impressed to be honest.
Forster 5 - Struggled to get into the game, hows he meant to be effective if all we're doing is hoofing it up to him?

Subs:

Robinson 7 - Lively, looks MUCH better than Martot.
Murray 6 - Few decent touches, early impressions suggest he could be a good signing.
Fraser 6 - Got forward quite a lot surprisingly.

Ref 0 - WANKER! WANKER! WANKER! WANKER! You get where I'm going with this?

And finally, Northampton - time wasting twats.

Oh and another thing i forgot....

Tommy Elphick LOOK AT THE LINESMAN before celebrating like youve won the world cup, even though you didnt score :D

Is it me, or was I the only one thinking the ref gave us every decision, even ones we werent appealing for (apart from the one that lead to their goal)

I got the impression that he gave us every decision up to their goal (apart from the goal we scored when the ball went over the line) and gave them every decision after their goal.

Kuipers 6 (although should lose a few for the argument)

Whing - 6 - Solid but not much else
Elphick - 7 - Kept them at bay for pretty much the whole match
El-Abd - 6 - Fine for most of the game, at fault for goal though.
Richards - 7 - Solid defensively and at least tried to get forward

Martot - 6 - Provided good cover going back but not hugely effective going forwards
Reid - 5 - Anonymous throughout
Thomson - 6 - Not living up to potential yet but an okay performance
Cox - 7 - Was lively at times, and maybe could have been given some help. Probably our most threatening player

Forster - 8 - Again the hardest working and most skillful, he must be getting pissed off with the team around him because he is given nothing
Elder - 3 - Completely useless I'm afraid. Now he's had his chance and shown people why Wilkins isn't playing him - he isn't up to it

Subs:
Fraser - 6 - Better than Reid, but never going to turn a game
Murray - 7 - Looked dangerous at times and had good touches and skill, will be a good player by the look of it.
Robinson - 6 - All show and no end result.

I think people are harsh on Martot to be honest. He's solid defensively and although not the best going forward, he isn't as bad as people make out. I don't see why Robinson is a huge improvement - he looks energetic and dangerous but his end product is minimal.

I am more than pissed off that Murray didn' start - Elder is useless and I don't care what condition Murray was in he should have started.
