Right now - knowing we have a decent squad desperately in need of more firepower - think the best option would be to spend what money we've got on someone who has scored goals at a high level and has done it relatively recently.

I'd rather take a £3mill punt on Vydra than spend three lots of £1million on the likes of Scandinavian prodigies and League 1 strikers that flatter to deceive.

Perhaps we should adopt the Middlesbro strategy they bought Rhodes for £9m, he scored the goals to get them up and earn in excess of £100m and have now put him up for sale.

If Rhodes does get binned off by Boro at this stage, he'll more than likely end up somewhere like Villa, I imagine. Money to burn at this level and attempting to completely revamp their entire squad.

Rhodes scored 6 goals for Boro in 18 appearances, during that same time span Hemed scored 11 for us. It's not about shelling out big fee's on a player, but instead should always be about finding the right player to do the job you need.

You could argue that with the chances that we created Rhodes (clearly a more natural finisher than Hemed) would have scored 13 in 18 for us and that those 2 extra goals would have seen us promoted.

Rhodes missed an absolute hatful in the games I saw him play in for Boro so not a great comparison.

There is no basis for the suggestions of a marquee signing. Hughton said on Saturday they would like an extra forward but signing Glenn takes the pressure off, also mentions we have other options inc Elvis

Hark now join in our song
There's only one Vidar Orn Kjatansson
It's a really good job
He's not a little squirt
Cause he needs a big back
To fit his name on his shirt

"Hughton is still keen to add a striker to his squad but The Argus understands Vidar Kjartansson of Malmo is not a target"
