What a goal it woulda been though!

We definitely mythologise a little over Vicente’s time at the club based on the reputation he came with given the all too brief opportunities he got to showcase his ability on the pitch. For this reason I’d go with Mitoma, especially in light of the fact he’s produced the moments he has vs PL defences.

I say all this as the person who uploaded that (rather grainy) footage 13 years ago

Though I guess technically the question asks prime Vicente vs prime Mitoma, so actually the answer is still Vicente. (Think I just wanted an excuse to make my initial point)

I'd walked to the near desolated south stand from the west (when you could do that) for the second half, and saw that Vicente run from behind. A perfect view. Hands on head time.

That said, my perfect view of Mitomas goal of the millennium says Mitoma is better. I'll go to my grave happy that I witnessed that. The joy. The perfection.

I think there's very little doubt that Mitoma has been a better player for us. Who would argue otherwise?

However, as you say, peak Vicente had the edge. Both are rapid with exceptional technique but Vicente possessed elite composure and execution, both in passing and finishing.

Excellent as he is, if Karou was truly at that level, we would've been bombarded with £100 million bids.

Prime Vicente when fit was one of the greatest footballers on the planet. Mitoma isn't quiiite at that level I don't think.

Also that run and shot against Derby is the second greatest non-goal Amex moment. (Winner is Dan Harding's demise vs. Buckley obvs)

Always find these threads a bit odd as there is no "versus" in my mind. Both are magical players. I adored Vicente at the time, despite only fleeting appearances and fleeting talent shown for us, him and Lua Lua was a lovely combo. Mitoma, like Knocky, another player that gets you off your seat. Mitoma of course has had more game influence and outstanding magical moments for the Albion.

But a prime Vicente would probably be preferred to a prime Mitoma, no doubt.
It's a hypothetical debate and a rare thing for NSC. People are making cases for both options and no one has fallen out.........yet.

I'm all for it.

Anyway.....Rod Thomas wipes the floor with both of them 🥴

I always think Vicente was a bit of a myth with us because he hit the bar against Derby and we'd been used to watching Gary Dicker and Matt Sparrow in midfield at the time. He only got 2 goals for us in total if memory serves and always went missing away from home. The good moments were all too brief.

Mitoma is levels above in his time with us. We have been lucky to see him for 3 seasons assuming he goes this summer. He's the most skillful player i've ever seen in the stripes.

I didn't see enough of prime Vicente to compare the 2 at peak levels but at BHAFC it's no contest.
He wasn’t missing against Ipswich at Portman Rd

Vincente played for us at Division 2 level. AK was an example of an outstanding player who couldn't step up. VIcente would have made that step comfortably but wouldn't have been so magical.
That’s complete nonsense about AK he says himself personal issues ruined his PL experience. Outstanding displays against Manure & City suggest if all was well in his personal life he may have found consistency.

He scored 5 goals in total. Definitely lot of myth and romance around him but that is the attraction

Mitoma a much better player for us (but Vicente was better in his prime)

I adore Vicente and absolutely loved watching him play for Valencia, when I was really into Spanish football. Many of my favourite all-time players are from that era such as Raúl. Vicente in the early 2000’s was one of the best players in world football, no question. Turned down a move to Manchester United, would’ve broken Real Madrid’s transfer record if Atletico had accepted the offer.

I remember watching Vicente for the Albion and he was just so far ahead of everyone else in terms of technical brilliance it was actually funny. You had CMS, bless him, looking like a lost puppy as Vicente played what should’ve been a killer ball to a more in-tune striker.

Vicente was a phenomenal footballer.

But we can only judge on what they’ve done for us, and Mitoma has been more consistent, more goal involvements, more dribbles, a lot more minutes - more everything and in the Premier League rather than the Championship.

So Mitoma for me based on contribution. Vicente was an extraordinary player too, but his best was behind him (obviously, or he never would’ve joined a Championship club!).

Two of our best ever players regardlesd

Vicente is still my favourite player to wear an Albion shirt. Him and Frank Worthington.

It's almost an impossible ask to compare a Vicente in his prime versus Mitoma. Different players. Different positions. Different eras.

But, if you were to offer me a shirt with Vicente on it or Mitoma, I'd take the dagger's shirt all the time.
