I think you summoned the downpour that seems imminent.
I must confess as I legged it on from the garden after this started I did think I bet someone will bounce this thread and there it is!

The garden was very pleased by this evenings water but I fear that might be it and looks like a very dry week ahead.

No rain in Norfolk for weeks and weeks.

Trees are dying (including a large Horse Chestnut at the end of my garden, next door’s Holly and a Sycamore - all mature trees) Fireman from 3 Counties being called out daily to forest fires in Norfolk.

Who cares about Norfolk on a Brighton dominated thread you might think? Well we all should.

Crops here are under severe stress and farmers have been trying to keep fields irrigated with extraction. This in turn empties river and results in dying birds (from diseases such as botulism which thrive in warm shallow water) and fish will need to be restocked.

If our home grown crops start failing significantly (and Norfolk is a major distributor all round the Country) we will not only have a shortage but will need to import more than usual, driving up costs for everyone.

We desperately need several days of continuous steady rain here - a thunderstorm will just cause flash flooding and water will run off the land, it’s so hard-baked.

Tis getting to get pretty concerning. Nothing in the forecast up to pretty much the end of May, either. Would love to see a spell of rain forecast at this point

A whole day of cloudiness but no rain. When will this desert receive some precipitation?

Yep.

I’ve never known grass in the garden to already be going brown in May before.

A few of the neighbours are resorting to desperate measures ???

The only small mitigation is that it's not been that hot (yet). Went to the allotment yesterday - first time in a week. Thought I'd have to water but actually plants were coping.

I agree a hopepipe ban is needed. The water companies will be terrified having just hiked everybody's bills, but it's the right thing to do IMO.

Gods country fortnightly
The Algarve has received 230% of the average rainfall in the first 5 months of the year.
I was in Vilamourna in March, very wet indeed. Locals seemed pretty pleased which I could understand.

Back in blighty farmers in some part of the south are heading towards disaster

U’ve cut it too short too early then impo
Not at all - we have had temperatures in the 20s here and no rain for several months. Everyone’s lawn is going brown. I actually leave my grass longer to help wildlife.
