Wrong. Some vegans wear leather (and wool). Second hand leather items reduce the need for further animal suffering by not supporting purveyors of newly manufactured products.

How do you think the nitrogen got into teh soil in the first place?
Companion planting is a good option if you want to avoid pesticides.

I find it very interesting how people in general can't wait to find fault with those that care, that act on their beliefs, that care about animals and the environment enough to actually do something.
Looking through the thread and you see repeated attempts to discredit what is a pretty noble way of living. It's not a cult or a religion it is people trying to be as good as they can. I really don't understand the angst that this generates.

Yep. Same excuse I have for all the ivory, tiger skin rug, alligator shoes and fur coats in my gaff.
Some vegans are hypocrites.
Also, people who are political vegans (as opposed to people who simply can't stand meet, fish, eggs, butter etc) really ought to never take medicines, all of which have been tested on animals. Provided you don't 'believe' in science you can convince yourself that all sorts work. Just please don't deny a child conventional medicine for cancer. That would be child abuse.

I'm kinda with you on this - live and let live and all that.
HOWEVER, in my experience vegans are the only group of people I've encountered where some of their number try to force the issue on you or lecture/guilt trip you about their lifestyle. I'm not saying it's every vegan - far from it - but it's hastened to me a fair few times.

You almost make it sound like one has to be a vegan to prove you really really care about animals and the environment.
I am sure you don't necessarily believe that, but it is a bit preachy and 'virtue signally'!
In danger of making a political point, it is similar to some on the hard left saying unless you are a socialist you must be a selfish, uncaring so and so.
Life isn't that black and white, so let us have a bit of resonableness and understanding all round.

Yep, I agree. I also agree that there are some twatish irritating vegans. However, it's almost like people have to be tribal about everything these days, whether it concerns cyclists, vegans, motorists etc - if they're not doing what I'm doing then they must be twats and must be wrong. The only thing that logic can be rightly applied to is Palace fans surely?

Your elephants and rhinos, tigers, alligators and furry animals won't die twice. I'm a vegan who relies on the sacrifice of animals every day. I know that countless animals die or are displaced by agriculture. I know that there are hidden animal ingredients in products that I use every day. I know that vegans sometimes have to rely on medication that contains animal products or has been tested on animals. That might make me a hypocrite but at least I'm trying.

trouble is some of us tire of being told what we should or shouldnt do and think. and it is political, with calls to tax meat from some quarters.
I don't blame you. You know what to expect from an "anti vivisection" conference but a "vivisection - the way forward" conference could yield positive outcomes rather than negative name calling and altercation.
Edit: Even though there would still be negative name calling and altercation.
