I remember that game. Euphoric "King Kev"-mania was sweeping the Toon, the masses had flocked back to St James Park in their FASANDS to worship and hail the return of the messiah - and they lost to us. To a Raphael Meade goal. And we were wearing pink.

Sure we also beat Fulham last year though.

We did, I accidentally scrolled past it when compiling that list.

Symons was manager then and hasn't been sacked yet.

Mark Gall actually scored the goal (although Meade was his strike partner).

That win put us above Newcastle on goal difference. Of course, we ended up getting relegated and they survived. The next season they were promoted to the Premier League as Champions.

Four seasons later they finished second in the Premier League, and we finished next-to-bottom in the basement - 89 places between us.

Strange to think then that before their game on Sunday, we were back to being only one league placing behind them. How long before we are once again above them in the league?
